I have always thought it would be a good idea to add luck-based minigames as a category. Since it's also noted on the minigame pages themselves. I thought it was a good idea, but it could use some discussion first.

Support[edit]

  1. Yoshi18 (talk) Per proposal.

Oppose[edit]

  1. Salmancer (talk) Without any other kinds of categories for gameplay, this feels like it's calling out a group of minigames people don't like. Which means the wiki wouldn't be neutral. (I dunno, maybe a category of the combat minigames with jumps, punches, and kicks? Or the racing game alikes? I personally think minigames based on amidakuji is a fair category.) Additionally, there might be some fiddlyness with say, Bowser's Bogus Bingo, which appears random but in actuality has minor mechanics the players can use to skew things.
  2. Altendo (talk) Per Salmancer, there is no "Luck"-type minigame. All of the minigames are only categorized by their in-game type and the games they appear in (with a few exceptions, like a single category for Rare minigames). Adding a category for minigames solely based on their gameplay type not only seems useless due to there being no in-game minigame type for luck, but also sets a precedent for other minigame gameplay types, like survival, scoring, highest points, skill, etc. This is different from "bonus" minigames, which all share the fact that coins received after the minigame is based on coins collected in them rather than just winning it, and therefore stands out from the rest, but luck minigames don't have a defining feature aside from players having to take a guess on what works or not.
  3. Power Flotzo (talk) Per all, this is way too subjective.

Luck-based Comments[edit]

What qualifies as luck-based? almost every minigame has at least some aspect of randomness to it.--PopitTart (talk) 13:59, April 25, 2025 (EDT)

I assume he is referring to minigames like Bowser's Big Blast, where the outcome of the game depends purely on luck, although I think it would be better to detail it in the proposal. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 14:39, April 25, 2025 (EDT)

@Sorbetti's right, @PopitTart. I mean, the minigames that are noted as “luck-based” At the beginning of the page. White Yoshi from Mario Kart Tour Yoshi18 (talk/contribs) 14:48, April 25, 2025 (EDT)

I was under the assumption we were supposed to remove "is a luck-based minigame" from intros. Salmancer (talk) 15:58, April 25, 2025 (EDT)
