Wing Cap
The Wing Cap is an item found in Super Mario 64. It's Mario's trademark Power-Up in Super Mario 64, being shown of the game's box art and a majority of its merchandise. When wearing a Wing Cap, Mario becomes Wing Mario and has the ability to fly. Mario can begin flying by performing a Triple Jump or getting shot from a cannon. To obtain the item, Mario must find a red ! Block and hit it. A Wing Cap will then pop out of the ! Block. While wearing the wing cap, the player can hold 
to slow down Mario's descent, Mario also won't take any damage from falling unless he used a Long Jump.
As a collectible item, the Wing Cap itself was largely omitted from Super Mario 64 DS. Instead, a feather can be collected from the red ? Block which will add wings to Mario's cap. Only Mario could use the feather, which gave him identical abilities to those seen in Super Mario 64; if another character struck a box containing Wings, they would simply earn a Power Flower. However, a lone, traditional-style Wing Cap could be found in one of the game's multiplayer stages; if the player picks it up, it will add wings to his cap, or in the case of Yoshi, grow wings on his body, similar to the blue shell in Super Mario World. It's not possible for Yoshi, Wario, or Luigi to acquire wings in the single player mode of the game.

There is also a Wing Cap on the roof of Princess Peach's Castle. When Mario earns all 120 Power Stars, a cannon will allow him to easily access the roof, however the roof is accessible at any time by other, much harder means.
Media
This theme is the same tune as the music that plays when Mario acquires a Super Star in the original Super Mario Bros., but with an added melody. A version of this same melody appeared as the theme of Superstar Mario and certain rooms in Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island. The theme was reused in New Super Mario Bros. as the invincibility theme, and was later remixed for Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 for the equivalent Rainbow Star power-up.
Trivia
- In the Wii U version of Rayman Legends, there is an exclusive outfit for Rayman that gives him Mario's clothing. If Rayman flutters while wearing this outfit, the wings appear on his cap, a reference to the Wing Cap.
- In both versions of Nintendo Monopoly, there is a Coin Block/Brick Block card that reads "Purchase a Wing Cap - Pay $50".
- In a preview for Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, the gliding power-up was described as a winged cap rather than the Carrot, and the screenshot was blacked out.[1] It is possible that the design was decided later in development, and it might have resembled the Wing Cap.
