Template:GBoss-infobox Fire Gobblegut is a secret boss hidden in the Battle Belt Galaxy in Super Mario Galaxy 2. He is fought in the mission, "Snacktime for Gobblegut", and is a harder version of Gobblegut from Bowser Jr.'s Fiery Flotilla.

Appearance

Fire Gobblegut has several major changes to his body from his normal form. First, his skin color changes from a spring green to a lava red. Not only that, but also the fact that his body radiates heat, burning Mario at the touch.

Strategy

The powered-up Gobblegut may be stronger, but he is fought in the same exact manner. This time around though, wherever he bites down on the planet, a pool of lava appears. When only a handful of Bellyache Bulges remain, Gobblegut begins to spit out fireballs at Mario, creating pools of lava where they land.

In Super Mario Galaxy 2, Bellyache Bulges are found at various intervals along the serpentine body of Fire Gobblegut when he is fought in the Battle Belt Galaxy. They appear to be large pink enflamed ulcers, six of which appear along Gobblegut's body. Just before Mario encounters Gobblegut for the first time, Bowser Jr. warns Gobblegut to protect them from attack. When Gobblegut burrows into the ground, the Bellyache Bulges will become stuck in the ground, at which point the player must attempt to spin each of the six Bellyache Bulges, popping them and causing them to disappear. Mario can also perform a backflip and then spin to hit the Bellyache Bulges when they are above him. Each time one is destroyed, multiple Star Bits will be released, and Gobblegut will take more damage. In effect, these Bellyache Bulges act as Gobblegut's only weakness, as he cannot be damaged by any other means aside from this. When all six of Gobblegut's Bellyache Bulges have been destroyed, he will explode and the player will win the battle. However, this simple feat is now made more complicated when fighting Fire Gobblegut due to the presence of scorching fire all along the dragon's body.

Trivia

  • Fire Gobblegut is similar to Fiery Dino Piranha, in the sense that both are fiery variations of bosses encountered earlier in their respective games, and are also much harder in general. They both also start spitting fireballs after being hit many times.
  • This boss, along with Bugaboom, are the only bosses in Super Mario Galaxy 2 that can only be accessed by a secret mission.
