Name

For future reference, the Prima guide refers to the owner as "a rickety old man", the "old prospector", and the "prospector", while the Nintendo Power guide refers to him as the ""old man in the rocking chair". Hello, I'm Time Turner.

Beanish?

Is there confirmation that this character is actually beanish? Looks more like a Hoohooligan.

Hoohooligan

A better name

As Sno (talk) found, the Mysterious Mine Carts owner is internally named "truck" in the 3DS version, but that's really just developer shorthand for "this is the cart NPC" and not quite the best name for a character, plus it's taken by a completely different article. Here is a closer look at the guides to find a closer mention.
Page 46 of Player's Guide:

"Talk to the old man in the rocking chair to ride a pair of mine carts to the bottom of the mountain."
"Once you’ve successfully reached the bottom of the mountain, the old man will ask if you want to ride again."

Page 62 of Prima Games:

"To completely descend from Hoohoo Mountain, Mario and Luigi must travel in rickety old mine carts governed by a rickety old man."
"The old prospector explains the rules and controls of the mini-game to Mario and Luigi."
"The prospector requires the Bros. to find at least 10 diamonds during the mine cart ride to pay for the journey."

Overall, I would say "prospector" is the most apt name we can work with, and it's even fairly unique as far as wiki use goes. The "old man" can describe most elderly characters, but few fit the description of "prospector" nearly as well. Ain't it goldurn better than "truck"? LinkTheLefty (talk) 13:42, October 29, 2023 (EDT)
