History

The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3

The first appearance of a parrot was in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 episode Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas. The parrot belonged to Prince Hugo and was named Prince Hugo's Parrot.

Donkey Kong series

Donkey Kong Country

In Donkey Kong Country, a green parrot with red and yellow feathers, named Squawks, appears as an Animal Buddy. In this game, Squawks is only able to guide Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong through dark areas with a flashlight. In later games, Squawks is playable.

Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest

In Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest, Squawks reappears.Two new parrots debut. One is an animal buddy named Flapper, and the other is an enemy named Screech. Flapper is a blue parrot with red and orange feathers. Diddy Kong and Dixie Kong can ride on Squawks. Squawks is also able to shoot eggs out of his mouth. However, Flapper can only fly down and he cannot shoot eggs out of his mouth. Screech is a brown, red parrot that races the Kongs and Squawks in a level, called Screech's Sprint. This is the only level Screech appears in.

Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!

In Donkey Kong Country 3: Dixie Kong's Double Trouble!, Squawks reappears again along with another new parrot named Quawks. Quawks is a purple parrot with red and orange feathers. Quawks does not have the ability to shoot eggs out of his mouth, but he can fly in the same directions as Squawks. The abilities Squawks have, are just like his abilities from Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy's Kong Quest. Quawks also reappears as an item in Donkey Kong Barrel Blast.

Donkey Kong Country Returns

In Donkey Kong Country Returns, Squawks makes an appearance as an item. This appearance makes Squawks the only Animal Buddy to appear in every installment of the Donkey Kong Country series, with the exception of Rambi the Rhinoceros. Squawks is able to tell Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong where the Puzzle Pieces are. Squawks can also help the Kongs find the switches in certain levels of World 7 He can be bought at Cranky Kong's Shop for fifteen Banana Coins.

Donkey Kong Country television series

In the Donkey Kong Country television series, there was one parrot named Polly Roger. Polly was a recurring character that appeared in a few episodes as a villain. His first appearance in the show was the epsiode "Booty and the Beast" where he is a background character. He is known to be Kaptain Skurvy's pet parrot.

Mario series

Mario Party

An item, called a Talking Parrot, appears in Mario Party. The parrot quotes random character quotes.

Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door

An unnamed parrot, appears in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. This parrot is found by Vivian and Mario in a secret passage room. The parrot first says random things, such as wanting a cracker, until it says the person who looked it in the room. This person is Doopliss.
