World 2-1 starts with a Little Goomba walking towards the player, followed by three green Koopa Troopas. Following that is a Hard Block staircase and two green Koopa Troopas. There are two sets of four Brick Blocks above; the top left one contains a Magic Mushroom or a Fire Flower. After that is another Hard Block staircase, followed by a bottomless pit. Across the pit is two Little Goombas and another Hard Block staircase. Then there are two bottomless pits to jump over. The middle platform has a ? Block that contains a Magic Mushroom or Fire Flower. After the pits are two Warp Pipes containing Piranha Plants. There is a Little Goomba in between the pipes. After that is three Little Goombas, two green Koopa Troopas, and two sets of five ? blocks. Then there is a bigger Hard Block staircase, followed by a pit. Across the pit are three Green Koopa Troopas and a Warp Pipe. Past the pipe are four Little Goombas; there are also five ? Blocks and five Brick Blocks above. The second Brick Block contains a vine that leads to a Coin Heaven. After that is another pit with four Brick Blocks above it. Following that are a red and green Koopa Troopa, and two Little Goombas. There is a Warp Pipe containing a Piranha Plant located before a pit; after that is two Little Goombas. This is where the Coin Heaven drops the player off. After that is three Warp Pipes, all containing Piranha Plants. Above the middle one is four Brick Blocks; the fourth one contains a Starman. Past that is two pits, followed by a green Koopa Troopa and two Little Goombas. There are two ? Blocks; the top one contains a Magic Mushroom or Fire Flower. Then there is a single Hard Block and a Little Goomba. The first Jumping Board then appears, followed by a big Hard Block wall. The Springboard can be used to jump over the wall; two Hidden Blocks can also be used to jump over it. After the wall is the flagpole.
