The 'Shroom:Issue 209/Fun Stuff
Director's Notes
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome into the August edition of Fun Stuff! Usually I'd be saying something about the warm weather and putting up fans, but while I'm typing this right now, it's actually quite chilly and rainy. That's the PNW for you.
The Awards Ceremony has come and pass, and now we move into a calmer period of our Awards season - at least, for us in the directorship Clown Car! Still plenty of fun events on the horizon for Awards, so please keep an eye out!
I've got little else to say this month, other than that Fun Stuff is just as strong as ever! Please, enjoy all of the offerings our team has cooked up for you!
Section of the Month
Congratulations to Meta Knight (talk) and Waluigi Time (talk) for tying for first, and big kudos go to FunkyK38 (talk) for snagging third! Make sure to vote for your favorite sections this month using the poll at the bottom of the page!

Anagrams
Written by: BBQ Turtle (talk)
Hi everyone, I hope you all enjoyed the awards! (And if you didn't, I'm sure that means you haven't checked you out yet- hurry up and get on that! And don't forget to come back to the 'Shroom- this is also something you will enjoy!) This month I've decided to go with the theme of characters that are (or largely wear) red. Hopefully that's not too hot to handle! If you fancy sending me some less-terrible-pun-prone anagram themes, or Mario-related anagrams I could use to make them, please let me know on my talk page or in a PM to me on the forums, and I'll get right back to you- and making anagrams. So stop being alarmed and flush those answers out!
How it works...
Basically, this puzzle consists of solving the anagrams. Each month has a specific theme, which will give you a clue about what sort of words or phrases the anagrams will be. I've also included the boxes that the anagrams will fit into, so you'll be able to tell how many words it will solve to be and how many letters will be in each word, which should give you a hand too. You'll also notice that within each set of boxes, one of the squares are yellow. As you solve each anagram, note down the letter which appears in the yellow squares, and if you can solve all of the anagrams, you'll also get a bonus anagram to solve from completing all of the others. I've included the letter configuration for this one at the bottom too, just to give you an extra helping hand. Best of luck!
1. EPIPHANY RATE
2. DESSERT PIPE
3. PLANTAIN HARP
4. LOG OR KINK
5. POPE SKIT
6. REPEATABLE
7. RYE HEADLANDS
8. A MAYOR BIB
9. A THICK CURB
10. LED ORANGE
11. DUD BOBBY MOB
12. FESTIVE URN RAP
Bonus anagram:
- Petey Piranha
- Sidestepper
- Piranha Plant
- King K. Rool
- Spike Top
- Para-Beetle
- Ashley and Red
- Baby Mario
- Huckit Crab
- Dragoneel
- Bob-omb Buddy
- Venus Fire Trap
Bonus anagram: Bull's-Eye Bill
Word Search
Hello and welcome back to Word Search, the Shroom's number 4 word finding section! This month's search is all about Diddy Kong Racing, that kart racing game from the N64 everybody loves that I don't really care for! It's a fine enough game, much better than Mario Kart 64 (cause that game is just regular bad). Diddy Kong Racing suffers from a classic case of being too complicated to beat. You gotta beat the game like three different times so you can get enough balloons, then go back and do all the races again just so you can get all the silver coins, so that you can play the Grand Prix mode to get all trophies so that can beat the game for real this time. And I'm just like "fuck you game" a game about kart-racing animals shouldn't be this complicated!!! Anyways this month's words can be found vertically, horizontally, diagonally, and backwards! As always have fun stay safe!
Crossword
Written by: MarioMorty (talk)
Hello everyone! It's that time of month, which means it's time for Crosswords. As has become a bit of a theme here, this edition will cover the bosses of a game. This one, however, lacks a certain red fellow... Because it's Luigi's Mansion! Most of the portrait ghosts (or the bosses) appear in this crossword. So without further ado, enjoy this spooky crossword!
Hiding Koopa
Written by: Waluigi Time (talk)
Hello there, 'Shroom readers! Super Mario Party Jamboree was announced a couple months ago, and obviously the most important thing about it is the key artwork. Seriously, look at it! Waluigi running for his life from a hammer-wielding Daisy! Bowser defeated by burning his own pancakes! What's not to love? The only thing that could be more important is if Waluigi's Island was in the game since they're bringing back more classic boards (it isn't...). Anyway, when I saw this I knew it was good Hiding Koopa material, so now it is. There's five Koopas hiding in this amazing artwork from the next Mario Party installment! Good luck!
Thanks for playing! Did you find them all?
Hint Art
Written by: ViableBunnyBudd (talk)
Hint Art! Hint Art! Come get your Hint Art, only available here! Have I got a deal for you today; the finest Hint Art on the market! A once in a lifetime deal, you can't pass this up! If you reject, you'll regret it for the rest of your life, yessiree! Hint Art! Wow!
So here's how it works: I have picked a location somewhere in the game. This is NOT the location of an existing star in the game; it is a custom location! I then made some art that abstractly represents this location in some way. It is now up to you, the reader, to decipher what this art means and to grab this imaginary star at this location! It's just like the rules of the Hint Arts from Super Mario Odyssey, only it's done for other 3D Marios. Most of these will be ground-pound stars like in Odyssey, but if I'm feeling creative I might have these imaginary stars in the air or activated by punching a wall.
I decided to go back to 64 for this issue. As I was looking for spots, I noticed something interesting and I was like "THAT'S SO COOL I HAVE TO MAKE ART FOR THAT".
GAME: Super Mario 64
STAR TYPE: Ground Pound
Hey, this place looks pretty nice.
You may need to reflect on this a little longer.
Hi Lakitu how ya doin
Thanks for playing, unless you didn't!
Connections
Greetings, beautiful 'Shroom readers! Welcome back to another edition of Connections! Boy howdy, I need to get these terms sorted today, but I think I left my reading glasses at home! Mind giving them a glance for me?
How it works:
Below is a table of sixteen different words, all of them with some sort of connection to the Mario series. These words correlate in sets of four, and it's up to you to figure out which words belong to a set! Work through the grid and decide which words are connected. Once you think you have the answer, check against the provided answers. If you get stuck along the way, feel free to utilize the clues. There's only one correct answer, so be on the lookout for words that feel like they might fit in more than one category. Good luck!
Mall | Meadows | Pebble | Chain |
Ninja | Gold | Coconut | Lemon |
Mine | Cake | Flame | Silver |
Rabbid | Chomp | Maple | Slime |
Start with "Flame"
The connection isn't as thin as you'd think!
Don't be so cross, the puzzle's almost over!
- Flame, Chain, Gold, Chomp: __ Chomp
- Pebble, Coconut, Lemon, Cake: items found in Paper Mario
- Ninja, Silver, Rabbid, Slime: crossover characters in Mario titles
- Mall, Meadows, Mine, Maple: words found in Mario Kart Wii course names
How did you do? Did you figure out the connections? Thanks for playing!
Where in the Marioverse is Carmen Sandiego?
Each issue, you will be given a case to solve and clues to use to help you find the solution! Use your Mario knowledge to crack the case!
You will begin each case at the scene of the crime, and you will be given three clues from passerby as to where the next hot spot is and what game it’s from. Using your knowledge of Mario games and the Super Mario Wiki, figure out where the crook is and go track them down! There are four locations each round: the crime scene (1) at the start, two locations (2 and 3) with clues, and the hideout for the crook of the month (4). Answers for locations will be given with the corresponding round, for example, the clues from the crime scene will lead you to location 2, and once you open the spoiler bubbles for location 2, you will be given the correct answer. You can open the clues for each location in any order you’d like, but be careful! You may encounter an incorrect clue that could throw you off the case!
Clues offered will give you a hint either about the next location or the game it’s in. Unlike a regular Carmen Sandiego game, you do not have to collect information about the crook you are tracking down.
Challenge round (optional):
-Find all locations and games correctly in two minutes or less
-Find all locations and games correctly without using the rest of the Wiki for help
“We’ve finally got a lock on Carmen’s crew, gumshoe, and they’ve made a daring attempt this time! They’ve made off with the Barrel Cannon at Maple Treeway! Maple Treeway has been a fan-favorite course since Mario Kart Wii, and it saw a return recently in the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass. The barrel cannon is critical to this racetrack- it shoots racers out at a high speed near the beginning of the race to the top of the tree so they can then race downwards towards the finish line. Without that barrel there, there is no race! Besides the damage done to this course, can you imagine the possibilities if Carmen and her crew were to get their hands on it? They would be able to snatch stolen goods and shoot them across the sky at top speed, or they could use it to get away from the law themselves after a heist! We need you to get that barrel back, gumshoe, on the double, and blast these crooks straight to ACME jail!”

CASE CLOSED
HIDEOUT ANSWER: Rock 'n' Fall from Yoshi's Island DS
“Case closed, gumshoe, although we did recover the barrel heavily damaged. Carmen’s crew was about to use it to blast off and escape, but our field team stopped them right in the nick of time. All the abuse it faced between the cannons, the enemies, and the falling rocks really did a number on it. The technicians from Maple Treeway have come to pick it up, but it looks like it will be a week before they can get it up and running again to have racers moving through the track. A shame Carmen’s team didn’t treat it with more respect! We’ll be sure to question this crew extensively to get as much information out of them as we can before we move them to their cells. As for you, gumshoe, good work as always! You persevered and snagged our targets! We’ll be sending a bonus your way for your efforts. Now, time to head back to HQ to write up the case report. We’ll keep you posted for your next job, gumshoe!”
