Hello there, 'Shroom readers! The October issue has arrived! We promise it's a treat and not a trick.
It may only be October, but we're already looking ahead to December! Well, that may be par for the course, actually... As Rose hinted towards last month, we'll be doing a Scavenger Hunt, with participation from our writers! The Holiday Special will be themed after racing games to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Mario Kart series, so you'll be hunting for items you may find on the racetrack. If you have contributed a section to The 'Shroom for Issue 175 or later, you're eligible to sign up and contribute an item based on yourself, or even an original character relevant to your sections! Check out the thread on the forums for more info, and sign up if you're eligible!
For everyone else, don't worry, because there will be plenty of other opportunities to participate in the Holiday Special! All readers will be able to participate in the Scavenger Hunt event, and there's plenty of time to start thinking about sections that will match the theme, or maybe even get started on a special feature, if you'd like. Our Statistics Manager, Meta Knight, is ready to receive applications, after all!
But let's not get too sidetracked just yet. We have a brand new issue for you to read first! We've got plenty of our usual sections, and many of our writers have thrown in a Halloween spin this month.

Greetings, bootiful 'Shroom readers! I love the energy of October, its spooky spectacles and autumn embrace. That's why I've gone ahead and refitted the entire 'Shroom HQ into a haunted house! That's right: actors and props galore, and don't forget the special effects! Don't worry, we most certainly had the budget to account for this.
I have announcements! What a surprise! Remember, everyone: next month is our Awards Director election, where you get to decide who will shoulder the formation of our Awards festivities for 2023. If you're interested, make sure to keep an eye out for more info! Hope to see you run!
We would also like to confirm that, in accordance with the responses we received in our survey and general staff energy, we will not be holding a 'Shroomfest this coming December. This does not necessarily dictate the end of 'Shroomfests forever, though - any directing staff is welcome to revitalize the idea next year! In the meantime, we'll hope you still find all of our special holiday content engaging.
