Why is this a separate article from Poison (obstacle)? It's "names" are generic terms, and there's nothing that sets it apart, since the poison article covers basically any poisonous liquid regardless of appearance or effects, even the allegedly "poisonous" pond from DKC1. The "poison" article is (or at least was formerly) about contaminated water specifically, while this is more pure industrial waste. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 15:03, March 9, 2021 (EST)
They seem to be different types of substances, which appears to be the main reason they are split. Mario jumping Nightwicked Bowser Bowser emblem from Mario Kart 8 16:50, March 9, 2021 (EST)

For reference, the phrase "toxic waste" seems to specifically come from the GBA version; various guide/magazine sources for DKC2/DKL2/DK64 vaguely use generic terms like ooze, sludge, liquid, goo, slop, etc. However, the DK64 Bradygames guide calls it "lava" more consistently.

(P129:)Lava Hand Jump[…]Twirl across the small pool of green lava and then Super Duper Simian Slam on Tiny’s Pad to set the hands in the lava pool in motion[…]WARNING Do not fall into the lava. If you do, you will be sent to the entrance of the cave and will have to return for another attempt.[…]Jump to the first hand as it rises out of the lava and then to the hand to the left. Jump into the next two hands, working your way around the left side of the lava pool until you reach the hand holding the Golden Banana. To exit the lava pool safely, leave this area the same way you came in. (P130:)[…]At the lava pool, use the Trombone Tremor on the Music Pad to lower the vines, and then jump from vine to vine to reach the platform in the back of the lava room.

Meanwhile, the Shogakukan guide refers to it as (P115/117)「どくいけ」(doku no ike, poison pool) or simply (P117)「いけ」(ike, pool). Either way, I'm fairly certain the poison's behavior is identical to lava. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:09, October 18, 2025 (EDT)

Eh, number 1: It's clearly Poison and Number 2: this is the same guide that calls Mad Jack "Jack in the Box", Puftoss "Pufferfish" and King Kut Out "K. Rool Cut-Out". I'm taking BradyGames calling the green stuff "lava" with a grain of salt. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 22:12, October 29, 2025 (EDT)
The Nintendo Player's Guide for DK64 gives it a couple names that make much more sense for it than """lava""": On Page 102, in Lanky's section for Creepy Castle, the guide refers to the pool as a "pool of poisonous green goo", with the subsection being called "Toxic Sludge Float". And on Page 104, Tiny Kong's section, in the subsection "Give Yourself a Hand", the stuff is called a "poison pool". I dunno about you, but I'm pretty sure that the Player's Guide's various names take priority over BradyGames' """lava""". ArendLogoTransparent.pngrend (talk) (edits) 02:26, October 30, 2025 (EDT)
I'm agreeing with Arend. Nintendo comes first in priority, after all. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 07:36, October 30, 2025 (EDT)
