Relation to the Koopa Bros.?[edit]

Guys, I just thought of something; this deserves no higher place than Trivia, though. Do you think Raphael's appearance in Paper Mario may have been a nod to how the Koopa Bros. are a play on the Ninja Turtles? The red Ninja Turtle was named Raphael, no? And the leader of the Koopa Bros. was named Red. I'm not saying that Raphael in the game has anything to do with the Koopa Bros., but do you think it is worth a mention in the Trivia section that Nintendo may have planned it that way as an external reference?--Dreyfus2006 18:14, 18 June 2007 (EDT)

That's an amazing coincidence, but I think that's all it is. Feel free to make it trivia, though.SaudyTalk!

Maybe... hm... that's a good point, come to think... but a little to far-off. Max2 (talk) so, maybe not.

Not really, its just a huge coincidence.Knife (talk) 15:48, 21 June 2007 (EDT)

Yoshi's New Island[edit]

The article infers, based on an asset name, that the big Raven found in Yoshi's New Island must be Raphael the Raven. Indeed, said filename is the same as Raphael's og Japanese name, but seeing as it translates to simply "Big Raven", I find it too generic for the wiki to draw any parallels between the two characters' identities. While I think this article is fine to cover any large-sized instance of a Raven considering the generic lang-of-origin name, I'm not sure the YNI instance should be so confidently described as the same guy you fight in the original game. It's like claiming that the Big Goombas you fight in Super Mario 3 are the exact same individuals as the ones in New Super Mario U because they're both named "Big Goombas". -- KOOPA CON CARNE 06:14, March 28, 2024 (EDT)

Do you personally think it should be split back, or simply reword? I'm rather neutral for now. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 06:17, March 28, 2024 (EDT)
Reword. As I said, it's fine using Raphael's page to cover any large-sized Raven considering his generic original name. This may seem like dilluting the page since Paper Mario grants Raphael a more distinguishing role among other ravens, but IMO that's more akin to how Mario Party Advance gives a random Goomba a role in its story, i.e. a random big Raven was given a special role and localizers thought to give him the same identity as Raphael. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 06:33, March 28, 2024 (EDT)
From what I can tell from Paper Mario, Raphael was still called "Big Raven" in Japanese, hence why he's called Raphael in the English version. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 09:14, March 28, 2024 (EDT)

By the way [Big Kyutyan was merged with this article as a result of this proposal]. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 20:17, March 28, 2024 (EDT)

My topic isn't about splitting Big Kyutyan back to its own article, so I don't see how that proposal is relevant. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 20:24, March 28, 2024 (EDT)
What is the topic about then? Calling the YNI one "Big Raven", or..? I'm not sure what the problem is with calling it "Raphael the Raven" though, it doesn't have to literally be the same individual every time, this isn't that kind of series. Blinker (talk) 20:48, March 28, 2024 (EDT)
  • sigh* Article currently says that the big raven in YNI is Raphael the Raven based on a filename. Said filename can be translated to "big raven", a generic enough epithet that it's disingenuous for the wiki to assume this enemy is the same as the Big Raven you fight in the original game. I'm trying to gauge opinions on rewording its section to remove any reference to Raphael and consequently repurposing the article to cover any instance of a big Raven regardless of its connection to the boss you fight in SMW2 or the NPC in Paper Mario. My argument for the latter is that Raphael's Japanese name is "Big Raven", which is generic enough to suggest "Raphael" is just a cute name the localization team gave to an otherwise unassuming creature. I hope I don't need to repeat myself further. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 05:29, March 29, 2024 (EDT)
I reworded it to simply explain that it is a large Raven, but with a possible connection to Raphael the Raven. --Green Yoshi FanOfYoshi 09:32, March 29, 2024 (EDT)
welp that settles it -- KOOPA CON CARNE 10:30, March 29, 2024 (EDT)
