naming[edit]

the official name in English should be Blooming Lakitu as the name suggests the level in which they appear. --Sonic98 (talk) 13:07, 6 February 2013 (EST)

The name of the level has nothing to do with this type of Spiny Egg. Plus, it is a type of Spiny Egg, so it can't be called "Blooming Lakitu" like you suggested. --- ThePremiumYoshi
Let's just do it as conjectural, Gūrindai is impossible to type in the Google bar. I say we call it a Piranha Plant Egg, for now.

i think official names from any language take precedence over conjectural english ones. - Turboo (talk) 21:59, 19 March 2013 (EDT)
Yup. According to our naming policy, "If there is no official English name, then the first released official name of the subject in another language is used." Mario Green.pngKaBoom! 19:56, 20 March 2013 (EDT)
Also, the level names might use non-offical names to make sure they alliterate or rhyme. --Hiccup (talk) 13:41, 13 June 2015 (EDT)
If an enemy name is in a level name, we assume that's the real name unless there's more explicit info to the contrary: anything else is overly speculative, not to mention looking a gift horse in the teeth. Not that it matters here anyway, seeing as "Blooming Lakitu" clearly doesn't refer to the thing the Lakitus themselves are tossing about, so really, there was no good reason to even add that comment to this two-year old conversation at all... - Walkazo 22:09, 15 June 2015 (EDT)
If it's any consolation, this conversation just made me think to check for this enemy's name in the Prima guide. Unfortunately, we have this: "The final Star Coin sits here, within easy reach. Beware of the Big Piranha Plants, along with the Piranha Plants that Lakitu might be raining down, as you move to collect this final prize." No luck on that end. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
Thanks for trying anyway. - Walkazo 22:31, 15 June 2015 (EDT)

Rename/Move to Piranha Pod[edit]

Agreed by proposer to close, to not conflict with the discussion here.

Well, given that Palutena's Guidance in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has Viridi refer to this species as Piranha Pod, it seems only right that the page should be moved there. It's an official English name, and those take priority on this wiki if I'm correct.

And hey, someone had to start the proposal.

Move to Piranha Pod[edit]

  1. Cheat-master30 (talk) Seems like the official name now, and there's no better alternative

Comments[edit]

There's already a discussion on Talk:Piranha Plant about this, I dunno how necessary I'd say this proposal is. Niiue (talk) 15:01, 30 January 2019 (EST)

Yes, this doesn't really need a proposal. If anything, that'll only delay the move. We're aware that, unlike "Micro Piranha" from Super Mario Bros. Encyclopedia, Piranha Pod is legit. LinkTheLefty (talk) 15:05, 30 January 2019 (EST)
A decision can be made with just a discussion and without a proposal so we should wait until there is a disagreement or an agreement before a proposal is made, as if there is an agreement then a proposal is unnecessary, so this proposal could just delay a move that people may unanimously support. Ah yeah, missed that discussion (thanks info box for not linking to the discussion about it at all). If you want to close the proposal, go ahead I guess.Cheat-master30 (talk)
You can cancel your own proposal, for the record. Niiue (talk) 15:10, 30 January 2019 (EST)
Rule 14, you must do it yourself or get an administrator to do it. Yeah, I think we were in agreement on most of the names... LinkTheLefty (talk) 16:22, 30 January 2019 (EST)
