Although "Level Up" is not normally appear as a feature on Fortune Street, Mario mentions it. Maybe it's part of the game where you get when you get all the four suits. (From Anonymous User.)

Event vs. Stat[edit]

As I've dug more into the Mario & Luigi series, I've discovered that Level is a stat with its own mechanical details. "Level up the event" and "Level the stat" are different things. What makes Level the stat distinct in M&L is that it is a major factor of damage calculation starting in Partners in Time (source), which goes all the way to Bowser's Inside Story DX and maybe to Brothership too. In addition to it being part of the calculation for damage Mario and Luigi deal, every enemy has a Level stat used for this same thing. Starting in Paper Jam, enemy level is visible in-game. Level the stat as a factor in damage calculation seems to be the main explanation for the "lower enemy Level"-type Battle Cards existing.

In addition to Level the stat being involved in damage calculation in M&L, player/enemy Level (depending on the game) is also known to be part of the Lucky Hit chance calculation in Superstar Saga, Partners in Time, and Bowser's Inside Story. Sources for these claims are in the Lucky Hit article.

Outside of M&L, Level the stat also has its own details in Paper Mario and The Thousand-Year Door. Enemies in these games also have Level stats that are used seemingly for how many Star Points are gained from the battle. First Attack, Bump Attack, and Spin Attack interact with Mario's level and the enemy's level to allow defeating an enemy in the field instead of entering battle. With some testing in TTYD using the speedrunner's practice codes, I was able to quickly confirm (in GameCube) that an enemy can be instantly defeated in the field if Mario's Level is higher than the enemy. Level 7 Mario enters battle with a Level 7 Goomba, but Level 8 Mario defeats the Goomba in the field. (This explanation of how these badges does not seem to be on the wiki, though testing is needed for Paper Mario to verify.) In addition to these details, Level is also a factor in another thing: the success rate of Flurrie's Gale Force move (source). To my surprise, I just checked the Gale Force article and this level factor detail is actually there (but is not cited).

I am unaware of how Level the stat may be distinct from Level up the event in other games.

I'm not sure how this distinction should be handled on the wiki. "Level up" existing alongside a "Level (stat)" article seems a bit silly. Level the stat info being buried in an article named "Level up" does make some sense to me, but it doesn't seem like the best way to handle it. If Level the stat info was buried in Level up the event's article, then it may cause the event article to be less about the event and more about the stat, which is not the name of the article. --Spencer PK (talk) 23:18, June 7, 2025 (EDT)

My opinion is to have a single level (stat) that also says the process of gaining levels is of extreme importance because it affects all the other stats. So basically only change the name of this article and flip the order of how things are being covered in it. Salmancer (talk) 23:28, June 7, 2025 (EDT)
