Talk:Chap

From the Super Mario Wiki, the Mario encyclopedia

I thought I'd say here that these two characters are probably better off on the same article because they're so similar (they're both minor Flip-Flop Folk from Super Paper Mario who even appear in the same town) and don't really have much notability even together, but if anyone disagrees I guess we'll see what happens. Slim's counterpart (PAL version)[edit]

Split both Chaps from each other[edit]

split 14-0

Seriously? I find this case ridiculous. Why would 2 characters that are from SPM and have the same name be merged? They don't affiliate with each other in any ways.

Comments[edit]

So, what will we call the two articles? I mean, we can't put (Flipside), since they're both in Flipside, nor can we put (Super Paper Mario), since they're both in SPM. --Reversinator 21:21, 11 June 2011 (EDT)

Will rename the one of the Chaps to Glim since one of they're names are that in the PAL version.--UM3000 E-102 Gamma.png

But we use the first official english name, and the first one was Chap. Renaming it to Glim would be inconsistent. --Reversinator 22:36, 11 June 2011 (EDT)
The only other option would be to do it by color ones blue ones green Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
It may be inconsistent to rename it to Glim, but I think it was a mistake in the US version that they were both called Chap. Two different characters should not have had the same name, and it's a mistake that was corrected for the PAL release. Therefore, his name should have been Glim in the first place. If you look at it that way, it's not an inconsistency but a correction. Avengah 22:56, 11 June 2011 (EDT)
We don't know what Nintendo was thinking. We don't know if it was an error, or if it was intentional to confuse players. With a lack of knowledge, we can't change it to Glim, so right now I think what Goomba suggested is fine. --Reversinator 08:23, 12 June 2011 (EDT)
It probably was a mistake, but yeah, for consistency, we need to use the "Chap" names. Even in species where we split them based on having different names in other regions (and different appearances), they still use the first English name, but with different parentheses. I agree that calling one "Chap (green)" and the other "Chap (blue)" would work, but alternatively, their more specific location could be used: "Chap (second floor)" and "Chap (The Underwhere)". The latter seems more consistence with how we differentiate other things, but the former is just as clear about which is which (unless someone's got blue-yellow colour-blindness (a.k.a. tritanopia), but that's pretty rare). - Walkazo 15:05, 26 June 2011 (EDT)

Just to add[edit]

Oops, I put it in the proposal before realising that it's settled, so I've moved it here.

Careful when using things like "second floor". Don't forget that the floors are named differently in the different versions; the English version has "Ground floor", "First floor", "Second floor"; while the US version has "First floor", "Second floor", "Third floor". Avengah 03:49, 27 June 2011 (EDT)}}

I suppose that should be kept in mind, but I don't think it's a huge issue here. We can simply go with the North American version since it came first; it shouldn't really inconvenience the PAL folks' navigation, since they shouldn't even be looking for a "third floor Chap", seeing as he's called Glim in that region. On the other hand, The Underwhere Chap is always "Chap" and he's always in the bar, so there's no issue that that name at all. - Walkazo 12:58, 27 June 2011 (EDT)
Also, naming the pages based on their different in-game locations would be consistent with how we handled the Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga Dry Bones (Dry Bones (Teehee Valley), with the other one labeled as "Dry Bones (Hoohoo Mountain) " in the navigation template. I really think using this method for the Chaps would be better than the informal colours. - Walkazo 13:39, 11 July 2011 (EDT)
Well they are in the same location.(Flipside)--UM3000 E-102 Gamma.png

Split?[edit]

Why hasn't this been split yet?--UM3000 E-102 Gamma.png

Because you have to split them see rule 11 Goomba's Shoe15 (talk)
