Is this even a character? Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 16:42, November 27, 2025 (EST)

Well, I thought we were treating this as a form/alter ego. Maybe we just need to change the infobox? Wandering Poplin (talk) 16:46, November 27, 2025 (EST)
Beside what Poplin said, for King Gessō you people were fine to have it as a character, despite it being a machine. My avatar's face to use in the signature Mariuigi Khed 18:00, November 27, 2025 (EST)
I do think we should fix that page too. It's more of a vehicle than a character. We also aren't treating the other mech/robots like Brobot or Bowser??? as characters, so this definitely feels like a bit of an oddity. Wandering Poplin (talk) 18:27, November 27, 2025 (EST)
I think that it's mainly due to a lack of direction regarding what constitutes a character and what does not. However, I don't believe we can completely compare a robot to a mech suit. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 20:43, November 27, 2025 (EST)
I feel obligated to mention that both of the examples are also currently characters on the wiki. Brobot, as a member of Category:Super Paper Mario bosses, is also in Category:Super Paper Mario characters and Category:Paper Mario series characters because Category:Super Paper Mario bosses is a subcategory of both of those. And it has a character infobox besides. Same for Bowser???, as it's category Category:Paper Mario bosses is a subcategory of Category:Paper Mario characters and Category:Paper Mario series characters. This keeps happening even beyond them: the same principle applies to Mecha King Bob-omb and Bowser's mech. The same principle actually applies for Busō Koopa, which as member of Category:Yoshi's Safari bosses is therefore a member of that category's parent categories Category:Yoshi bosses and Category:Yoshi characters.
I personally believe that piloted enemy robots, for the purposes of this wiki, are basically characters. The player engages in battle against the robot, and so the robot can be reasonably interpreted as the opposing force. (As for why this doesn't apply to the Junior Clown Car and some other smaller vehicles? Eh, usually because the "boss" that gets labelled in user interfaces, marketing, and guides as the boss is Bowser Jr. and not the Clown Car. In order to make non-autonomous enemy robots not be characters, we would have to upend a decent amount of wiki organization. We'd have to remove enemy and boss categories from character categories, then manually reinsert all the not piloted robots into characters. "All the not piloted robots" includes all the things that aren't robots to begin with, so we're talking a huge undertaking. Its the kind of undertaking that we should only consider doing if a proposal says so. (There are people who do believe piloted robots aren't characters, in fact they were removed from the List of characters fairly recently. I think that's the wrong approach since now our character list is inconsistent with our categorization, but it is the current approach.) Salmancer (talk) 05:48, November 28, 2025 (EST)
The examples broughts here are piloted robots, but this page is just about a suit, I don't think there's comparison at all here. Sorbetti Sorbetti Sorbetti (talk) 22:54, November 29, 2025 (EST)
