Chef Torte is a Terrapin and one of the greatest chefs in the world. He has only appeared during the game Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars. Currently, he works in the kitchen at the Marrymore chapel baking wedding cakes. Chef Torte takes his work very seriously. He constantly bosses around his apprentice and even insults the young Koopa as the two cooks create their confections.
History
During the events of Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars, Chef Torte is tasked with creating the world's greatest wedding cake for Booster and Princess Toadstool's wedding. The chef and his apprentice eventually complete the masterpiece Bundt, which they rush over to the wedding ceremony. However, when they arrive, they discover that Mario disrupted the wedding and rescued Princess Toadstool. Chef Torte becomes angry, for now his work of culinary perfection will not be eaten. Thus Chef Torte and his apprentice attack Mario and his allies.
In battle, Chef Torte attacks by running up to one of Mario's allies and furiously slapping him. Additionally, the chef and his apprentice are invulnerable and can't be defeated (as they are needed purely for purposes of the story). As such, Mario and company should focus their attacks on the Bundt cake itself while defending the weak blows delivered by Chef Torte and his apprentice. Eventually, after enough attacks, the cake will start to move. As it turns out, Bundt was such a work of culinary perfection, it actually came alive. When the cake starts moving on its own will, Chef Torte and his apprentice run away, leaving Mario's party to defeat the monstrous wedding cake. Later, when Mario returns to Marrymore, the great chef is working on another great wedding cake.

Trivia
- Torte is German for "layer cake." Likewise, Chef Torte speaks with a thick German accent in his dialogue similar to Dyllis.
- If Mario jumps on the wedding cake while he is making it, Chef Torte will bark at the plumber, causing Mario to fall off the cake.
- He shares similarities with Bubbles because both have created a food which was so perfect that it became a monster.
