Layout

The level starts with Mario in front of a Chain Chomp, under a set of question blocks. Mario can defeat the Chain Chomp by ground pounding on its pole, releasing the creature and make it collapse to a random wall or edge of screen. Next, there is a high wall that cannot be jump over: instead, the player will have to use the water floating in the air just above. The next area features two Chain Chomps, and it is difficult to jump over the other walls encountered here since they must time their jumps correctly. Then comes a section starting with a Bill Blaster, two sets of blocks and multiple water bubbles floating in the air, just like the one encountered at the beginning of the level, with another section filled with Chain Chomps and the first star coin, trapped between two walls of blocks. It is possible to break them by luring a Chain Chomp there, but it is also possible to do so if Mario has the Penguin Suit, and the player will then come up with the Checkpoint Flag. after that, there are several more water bubbles in the air, after which is a warp pipe hiding in the fog. If entered, the player will have to prepare themselves to swim in more water bubbles to reach the second star coin and escape the area. Above the hidden area, is the last star coin, so if they had emerged from the warp pipe serving as an exit to the secret section, they must backtrack to get it. Then awaits the final section of the level, with more water bubbles, this time with a little twist: Bill Blasters surround the area and will fire Bullet Bills onto the bubbles. If the player manages to survive, they will eventually reach the Flagpole.

Star Coins

  • Star Coin 1: Right before the Checkpoint Flag, the first Star Coin is blocked off by many Brick Blocks. To get it, Mario and co. must free the nearby Chain Chomp while it is facing the right so the Brick Blocks will be destroyed and the Star Coin will become attainable.
  • Star Coin 2: Near two ? Blocks and a Brick Block is a Green Pipe partially concealed by clouds (pictured). This Pipe leads to a hidden area with several Water Balls, and the second Star Coin is floating above the third one.
  • Star Coin 3: After emerging from the exit Pipe that led from the area with the second Star Coin, Mario and co. must go to the left and the third Star Coin is in a small valley guarded by two Chain Chomps.
