Bonjour, I'm Leirin, a member of the Mario Wiki! I joined in 2008 mostly because of a sudden love for Super Mario RPG (VC player here; I wish I could have played it during the SNES years!), but also because I figured I could be helpful with adding certain things to the Wiki, such as Japanese information, which I have a lot of. (Little trivia: my first edit on this wiki was adding Luvbi's Japanese name!) I'm also a writer for the Wiki's very own "The Shroom", and my section is the Non-Mario review -- give it a look if you haven't. I'm an aspiring young artist with a deep interest in game development. Some of you might know me from Kirby's Rainbow Resort or even my (currently WIP) website, Kirby Dream. I enjoy drawing, playing video games, and writing down strategies for video games as passtimes.

In any case, I'm pleased to make your acquaintance!

Things I need to get done

Favorite Games and Series

Now this takes me back, good times. If you didn't already know, I am very nostalgic and sentimental. As silly as this may sound, many of my greatest memories are surrounded around video games. Some favorites include Super Mario RPG, Kirby Super Star Ultra, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, MOTHER3, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. I also have a place in my heart for the Pikmin and Klonoa series, and have fond memories of playing Banjo-Kazooie games on my N64 and Sonic Adventure & Sonic Adventure 2. While I don't consider myself a "fan" of either franchises anymore, I still respect said games and enjoy them. I have also come to enjoy playing Mega Man -- expect a review on Mega Man 2 soon!

Odd Theories and Thoughts

Mind you this is a section for fun. It contains strange, strange theories that float about in my mind, decaying and rotting, until I pick them up and slop them on my user page. So here it goes.

  • You may already be aware of the fact that the Happy Mask Salesman in The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask has a Mario mask on his bag, right? Well, consider this: The HMS (I'll call him that for short) killed Mario and regularly disguises himself as Mario from 2000 (the release of Majora's Mask) onward. So the Mario we see in games like Paper Mario and newer isn't the real Mario... it's the HMS!
  • Ever considered the fact that Twink from Paper Mario might be Geno, or at least related to him? I mean, just think about it. Look at all the similarities. Paper Mario's seven Star Spirits, then SMRPG's seven stars. Even just the subtle fact that Twink waves to you goodbye at the very end of the game (sort of as a reference to SMRPG) got me thinking. Hmm.
  • Here's something to ponder: what do video game characters do for the holidays? Like Father's Day and Valentine's Day? What about April Fool's Day? It's an interesting thought.

...Don't look at me that way. I told you I was strange!

My opinions on a Super Paper Mario movie

(See here for more details)

Indeed, I was ecstatic upon crossing this information. While I have high doubts in my heart, seeing as though it was stated in October of 2007, I still have high hopes for it and pray that it will happen. Something about me has the mentality of "I don't care if it sucks, I just want my Super Paper Mario movie", despite knowing I shouldn't. I respect the genius Charles Martinet's opinions of it -- whatever Miyamoto does with his franchise is probably what's best for it.

Although something about me can't shake the feeling that by making a new movie, they'll end up giving the main character (in this case, Mario) plenty of lines, just as most other movie main characters have. But by doing that, I also get the feeling they will ruin Mario. So unless they keep him a silent protagonist in contrast to everyone else, this may very well completely avoid the feeling that is Mario. Which I am afraid of.

Otherwise, I am quite interested, and hope that it will come out. You can discuss this on my talk page.

Favorite Video Game Boss Battles

Template:Spoiler

  • #9: Mr. Passion, of MOTHER3. A fun fight indeed. The steady tempo changes as it switches songs just makes the timing all the more tricky (and fun). Mr. Passion in himself is very strange. He even pulls an Excorcist on you and lets his head to a 180 before the battle begins! Creepy.
  • #8: Zero, of Kirby's Dream Land 3. Another Kirby final boss, geez, sue me. Zero is basically a giant, floating eyeball who squirts juicy red blood at you for a defensive move. An enemy in the Kirby series of all things to attack by bleeding all over the place? Unexpected, in the least. You even get to fight his bloody red pupil. Before you actually battle Zero, you fight Dark Matter.
  • #7: Ganondorf, of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker. While the battle seems monotonous at first, once you get the hang of things, it's really quite easy. Better yet is the fact that Ganondorf dies in the most epic and beautiful way in this game: getting stabbed in the freaking forehead! Ouch, that's gonna hurt. Especially Link's stunned facial expression after doing so.
  • #6: Giygas, of EarthBound. First, he starts out with a freaky image of your face on his center (eerie much?), and once he enters phase two, he gets ready to bust out some PSI Rockin'. Afterwards, he can't even be attacked. What now? While a lot of people didn't realize this when they first played the game, the only thing you should be doing now to beat him is Praying! After you've prayed around 8 times Giygas freaks out and becomes unstable, while the screen goes crazy. Strange, but genius, strategy. The war against Giygas is over!
  • #5: Marx and Marx Soul, of Kirby Super Star and Kirby Super Star Ultra (but especially Ultra). Who doesn't love Marx? I'll tell you: no one. That I know of. He's pretty much a psychotic child about Kirby's height with a jester and huge, unusual wings. He does all sorts of freaky stuff during the battle, and the music that plays with it is no doubt some of the best in all of the Kirby series. The deadly scream he emits in his Marx Soul form is pretty horrifying.
  • #4: Smithy, of Super Mario RPG. I know, the final boss is to be expected, but Smithy is a strange foe indeed. Not only does he bang his head with a hammer to transform it into something nasty, but just the fact that he becomes somewhat retarded hits it for me right there.
  • #3: Culex, of Super Mario RPG. Wow. You can really feel the tension and heat of battle here, which is complemented by the Final Fantasy music. The setting in itself is left so unexplained and mysterious, especially just the Culex character himself. USE GENO FLASH! That is all that can be said. ;)
  • #2: Giegue, of MOTHER. Not many people got to complete this wonderful game (aka EarthBound Zero), did they? Well, too bad, 'cause they missed out on such an awesome fight! Singing. Weird strategy indeed. You must sing continually while this alien reveals its backstory to you in order to defeat it! MOTHER is full of quirky enemies.
  • #1: Masked Man (Claus), of MOTHER3. What... what can even be said of this battle? Everything about it. Shocking. Aghast. Stunning. First off, the music; everything is going insane. Eerie random voice clips. 8-bit explosions. Chirping noises. Previous enemy music getting sped up and high-pitched. All the while, Lucas simply keeps defending and healing. But worse. The voice of "your beloved mother" who had passed on is trying to contact your misled brother Claus and tell him to stop beating up on you. This goes on for a while, until she tells him that he's Lucas's twin brother. Then everything just comes to a grinding halt. The events that take place in this battle, the subtlety of the dialogue, the mixed feelings and happenings afterwards... it's almost too much to contain.

Favorite Mario RPG Allies

  • 10: Ms. Mowz, of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Hooray for optional partners! She was always such a funny character, less of a serious one and more of a comedic one. While she isn't amazingly strong, she DOES have some good powers.
  • 9: Bowser, of Super Mario RPG and Super Paper Mario. He can kick butt with his Chain Chomp-based moves. My only qualm over using Bowser in battle is his magic attacks. Ugh, they're horrible...
  • 8: Bobbery, of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Explosives. Indeed. Whether you need to blast through a wall or throw tiny ticking time-bombs at enemies, Bobbery's your man.
  • 7: The Yoshi Kid, of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Feisty, speedy and quite a powerhouse, the Yoshi Kid is one tough cookie. Plus, he's cute, and you can ride him in the overworld -- an ability which I always like in the Paper Mario games.
  • 6: Goombella, of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. A knowledgable archeologist girl who I consider a huge improvement from Goombario of the first Paper Mario. She can Headbonk, Tattle, all that good stuff!
  • 5: Lady Bow, of Paper Mario. With her lethal fan-slap and good looks, she was definitely my favorite partner in the first Paper Mario -- and no doubt one of the best in the game. She also has a bit of a sassy attitude.
  • 4: Princess Toadstool, of Super Mario RPG and Super Paper Mario. While most preferred Bowser in Super Mario RPG, I side with chuggaaconroy and believe that Toadstool is a better choice in the end. She's almost a requirement for the final boss, too. Without the Frying Pan/Metal Plate, she's almost unusably weak though!
  • 3: Vivian, of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. The frail girl of the team is surprisingly one of the best partners! Her standard attack is easy to use and does a fairly keen amount of damage. She also hails from one of my favorite parts of the game.
  • 2: Mallow, of Super Mario RPG. I doubt many are aware of the fact that Mallow is the first-ever character to join Mario on an RPG adventure! He proves himself important during certain parts of the story, only con being his weak physical strength. He has some good magic though, especially Snowy -- the Czar Dragon is nearly impossible without it!
  • 1: Geno, of Super Mario RPG. Ah yes... most consider him the granddaddy of Mario RPG game partners! With his star-based magic and mysterious past, what's not to love about this guy. It may also come in part from my fascination with the concept of a possessed doll. Definitely interesting.

The MarioWiki Anniversary Polling

Yaaay! The MarioWiki Anniversary is upon us! Let us vote!

While I'm not going to reveal what I voted for (at least not yet), I will tell you right now that I consider Super Mario RPG to be the best Mario game, with Super Paper Mario likely in second. What I chose for the worst game is, sadly, a game I have never played, but have observed, and judged it to be the worst. Perhaps you can guess?
