Mario and Dr. Mario: Same guy?

Do we know Dr. Mario is just Mario wearing a doctor suit? Maybe we do, just want to make sure. Sprite of the Ruby Star in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door CrystalYoshi Yoshi Egg Sprite.png

I'm pretty sure... I think this was directly stated in a Nintendo Comics System comic, and then there's the whole thing about Mario and Dr. Mario never showing up at the same time and all of that. Stumpers! 11:45, 3 February 2008 (EST)

That's true. Just seems a bit un-Mario-ish for him to be working as a doctor. But, maybe... Sprite of the Ruby Star in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door CrystalYoshi Yoshi Egg Sprite.png

"The Doctor is in... Over his Head" we have a plot synopsis for it if you want to look. Stumpers! 17:47, 3 February 2008 (EST)

Yes, he is the same guy. The following is an excerpt from the Dr. Mario NES manual (p. 3):

Hi everybody! I'm Mario. How's it going? Over the last few years, I've been involved in some pretty wild adventures. Now, believe it or not, I work in the virus research lab at the Mushroom Kingdom Hospital. Today I'm about to begin my research as usual.

Just wanted to note that. Time Questions 14:20, 4 February 2008 (EST)

Cool. So he's the same guy in multiple mediums. Thanks! Stumpers! 16:54, 4 February 2008 (EST)

should we create a gallery for dr.mario?

Merging

Should we just add this to the Mario article? IT IS THE SAME GUY! User:Mario freak

I agree on that. MarioManiac (talk)

No. Dr. Mario, despite being just an alter-ego, has his own large series and even was playable in one game. We even have a Featured Article that is about an alter-ego and stated alter-ego only appeared in one episode of the cartoon! FakeIco MCD.png MrConcreteDonkey 21:44, 14 November 2010 (UTC)

Create a TPP about this subject, I would support it. Koopa K (talk)

Skin Color

I noticed that in SSBM he has a darker skin color.

So does Mario, and lots of other subjects look different than their core franchise depictions too. It's just a style thing. - Walkazo 13:15, 25 August 2011 (EDT)

Ssbm art

The ssbm art of him should be added for his "Newer" look. --Goombob XD (talk) 18:51, 14 May 2013 (EDT)Goombob (I had to edit I forgot my signiture ;))

It should stay the way it is since it's a relatively modern picture of him, and the game it's from came after Super Smash Bros. Melee. Plus, it illustrates him better (the one from Super Smash Bros. Melee has a background).

(character)

Do we really need the "(character)" in the title? None of the characters have that in their article title. The plumber version of this guy is "Mario" not "Mario (character)". The guys that have their own series like Donkey Kong, Yoshi, Wario, their main pages are the characters. Why would we need this distinction for Dr. Mario? SeanWheeler (talk) 23:18, 19 December 2013 (EST)

Because "Dr. Mario" is also a video game. Zero777 (talk)
So is Donkey Kong and Yoshi. Yet those character articles are just plain Donkey Kong and Yoshi.
The preceding unsigned comment was added by SeanWheeler (talk).
Yes but Yoshi debuted before the Yoshi game, and Donkey Kong debuted after that game but under another name. While Dr. Mario appeared in his debuted game and its sequel but never in another game (I think). (Super Smash Bros. Melee is a crossover so it doesn't really count) Look I advise of, since you have some strong opinions about wanting this to change, why don't you start a proposal to rename the game "Dr. Mario (game)" and the character simply "Dr. Mario"? Zero777 (talk)
The game is already at Dr. Mario (game). The article named Dr. Mario is a disambiguation page. SeanWheeler (talk) 17:44, 20 December 2013 (EST)
Oh, well there you go, there's your reason. Zero777 (talk)
What was the reason? The disambiguation page? I think a character would deserve the plain title than the disambiguation page. Yoshi and Donkey Kong have their own disambiguation pages with "disambiguation" in the title. SeanWheeler (talk) 23:33, 20 December 2013 (EST)
Like I said, if you really wish to make a change, then I suggest to just make a Talk Page Proposal of the matter. Zero777 (talk)

Proposal: Move this page to just plain "Dr. Mario"

I feel that the "(character)" part is not needed. Other characters with their own series don't have "(character)" in their own page title. Examples include Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong and Wario. Blue Toad and Yellow Toad also have "(character)" in their titles, but I don't really think those are needed because they are disambiguating them from Super Mario Galaxy characters. But I guess there are some other characters that deserve to keep the "(character)" part in the title such as Butterfingers. However, Dr. Mario doesn't need the "(character)" in his name. People would think of Dr. Mario as Mario dressed as a doctor.

Support

  1. SeanWheeler (talk) Per proposal.
  2. SuperYoshiBros (talk) While I was originally going to oppose because it's the name of a character, game, and series, we do the same for Donkey Kong as well, so I'll support.
  3. Tails777 (talk) Yoshi and Donkey Kong have this issue and if they don't need the character in the article name, neither does Dr. Mario. Per proposal.
  4. KP (talk) Per all.
  5. Zero777 (talk) Per SeanWheeler and also in support due to the discussion we had above.
  6. Skittles (talk) Per all.
  7. LeftyGreenMario (talk) Good point. If Mario had a game called Mario, we wouldn't have an article called "Mario (character)", right?
