Template:Level Scorch 'n' Torch is the fourth level of Bright Savannah in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze.

The level is set in the middle of a wildfire, and introduces Water Sacks. Broad patches of ground, called Fire Floor[1], will begin to sizzle as soon as the Kongs step on them, inflicting damage. Fire Floor can be remarked by the glowing coals beneath them. Fluffs can often be seen jumping on it, but should they bump and hit the Kongs, they will get burnt for lingering too long on it.

Overview

Donkey Kong will find the first Water Sack under a plug at the start of the level, which can be used to put out a fire, or defeat enemies. Later on in the level, there will be piles of Water Sacks where Donkey Kong can use as many of them as required. Amidst the wildfire, the Kongs will encounter swinging ropes lit on fire, and platforms made of wilted leaves. There are also leafy platforms that are stable at first, but start to burn away. When the Kongs reach a platform over a fire pit, they will need to use a Water Sack to put out the fire on a rope to get across. After jumping off the rope, they will land on a tree, which will begin to burn down and sink into the pit below, forcing them to jump to the next platform where the first checkpoint lies.

The Kongs will then encounter Flaming Falling Totem Poles, which are fiery Screaming Pillars from Donkey Kong Country Returns, as well as cracked parts of the ground which, upon landing on one, emit fire. In these cases, Donkey Kong can permanently put out the heat using a Water Sack. Later on in the level, drops of fire will occasionally rain from the trees in the background, and the Kongs will need to cross another fire pit past three burning trees.

Past the second checkpoint, more of the same obstacles found previously in the level are encountered. Some of the ropes serve as obstacles and are wholly lit on fire, forcing the Kongs to duck under them. Later on, after jumping between ropes over another pit of fire, the Kongs will enter a Barrel Cannon launching them to another hot surface, where the Slot Machine Barrel is found bouncing along it.

Collectibles

K-O-N-G Letters

  • K: On the highest of the three sets of the wilted leafy platforms.
  • O: Between two burning ropes over a hot surface.
  • N: Beneath the second of the three burning trees before the second checkpoint.
  • G: Under the tree raining multiple drops of fire in succession.

Puzzle Pieces

  1. Revealed after putting out the fire and rolling through the bushes under the two swinging ropes.
  2. Revealed after collecting all of the Bananas on the burning tree just before the first checkpoint.
  3. Past the first few Screaming Pillars, there is a panel lit on fire. After putting it out, Donkey Kong must pound on it to flip it over, revealing an entrance to a Bonus Area with the Puzzle Piece.
  4. Under a plug over a hot surface. This plug takes slightly longer to pull out, therefore the ground's heat must be put out first.
  5. On the topmost platform of the third of the three burning trees just before the second checkpoint.
  6. There is a tree stump with fire burning from the left of it which, when extinguished, reveals an opening to another Bonus Area with the Puzzle Piece.
  7. Within the bushes on the other side of the hot surface with the Slot Machine Barrel.
