DK Spaces are spaces in the Mario Party series, where if a character lands on one, Donkey Kong will appear and do many good things. DK Spaces mainly serve as a counter to Bowser Spaces. The space first appeared in Mario Party 5, as that was the first game where Donkey Kong was no longer a playable character. The space was always placed on a random spot on the board, and landing on it made DK do one of three events:

  • DK Mini-Game: All players participated in a Mini-Game, where they collected bananas. At the end, DK gave everyone coins equal to the amount of bananas they got by one, two, or even three times.
  • DK Bonus: DK let the player roll a Dice Block in the form of a barrel to get coins equal to the amount shown.
  • DK Roulette: DK and the player rolled a Dice Block. If the player rolled a higher number, DK gave them a Star.

In Mario Party 6, there were more of them on the boards, but they were only around during the day, as they were replaced with Bowser Spaces at night. The events were the same, except that the DK Roulette was removed, as the DK Bonus had the possibility to get a Star as well.

In Mario Party 7, the bonus and roulette events were gone. Players had to earn their prizes by Mini-Games alone. There were two types of Mini-Games, however – single-player and mulitiplayer. In single-player, players had to beat Donkey Kong to the goal to earn 20 coins, 30 coins, or even a Star. Multiplayer was the same as the last two games.

In Mario Party 8, whenever someone landed on the space, DK appeared to do something helpful, with a different method for each board, usually the opposite of whatever that board's Bowser Space would do. After the event was over, all DK Spaces on the board became Bowser Spaces (also, the shape of the space was different with each board, including the tutorial). He did the following on each board.

  • DK's Treetop Temple: Tossed the player directly to the Star.
  • Goomba's Booty Boardwalk: Had the player deposit five coins into a barrel. The player then shook the barrel as much as they could within a few seconds to earn back more coins.
  • King Boo's Haunted Hideaway: Covered all the pitfalls with special platforms. The first player to reach a pitfall would receive a free Star from Donkey Kong before being sent back to Start. The platforms would also disappear once King Boo shuffled the house, or someone landed on a Bowser Space.
  • Shy Guy's Perplex Express: Donkey Kong's Barrel Train would overtake the current locomotive. Donkey Kong would then give a Star to the first player that reached him and then left. The Barrel Train would also leave if someone landed on a Bowser Space.
  • Koopa's Tycoon Town: Deposited a chunk of coins into one of the five main hotels on the player's behalf.
  • Bowser's Warped Orbit: Gave the player a Star upfront.
