Chompses are aggressive, large sharks that swim around the submerged levels of Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land. They are rather large, and move slow enough for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to catch up to it. Chompses can only be defeated by using Enguarde the Swordfish.

In the Club Nintendo comic "Donkey Kong Country," two Chomps are try to attack Diddy and Donkey Kong.

Several Chompses can be seen swimming around in the background of the trailer for the apparently canceled game, Donkey Kong Racing. It is possible that Chompses were going to be one of the rideable creatures in this game seeing as another enemy species, Zingers were seen to be rideable.

In Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, a shark resembling a Chomps, though more manic and vicious looking, appears in an underwater race course as an obstacle.
