Buzzy
Template:Articleabout Template:Species-infobox Buzzies[1] are bee-like enemies debuting in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze. They have stubby bodies, covered with dense bristles and marked with thick stripes. They have arched corporal structures, slightly narrowing from head to bottom, the latter which is equiped with a short and bent sting. On each side of their bellies, Buzzies feature two rows of three tiny sharp legs each. Their wings are moderate in size and and are placed a tad away from each other on the insects' hunched backs. Buzzies always seem grouchy, given their frowns and squinted eyes. Each Buzzy displays furrowed eyebrows and sharp mandible fangs protruding out the mouth, traits which make Buzzies resemble Goombas from the Mario games.
Buzzies are naturally encountered patrolling the air. They are not fond of the Kong's presence, and start to threatfully approach the heroes in an attempt to harm them, once they spot them. On their way to the target, Buzzies fly slowly and in a staggering manner, seemingly moving their voluminous bodies with difficultness. In Beehive Brawl, a level in Juicy Jungle, they even come out of their beehive houses to attack the Kongs. Some Buzzies, on the other hand, are not as aggressive. In the same level, arrays of larger Buzzies march over areas with very wide chasms, carrying fruit slices covered with climbing grass, whom the Kongs can hang on to in order to pass the chasms. Thus, the Buzzies can ferry the Kongs over and help them progress through the stage. However, they experience difficulties in holding the primate characters, and steadily descend with them due to the supplimentary weights they transport, unless the Kongs pound their fruit slices, action that forces the insects to ascend.
All Buzzies, irate or helpful, can be defeated with stomps and roll attacks, as well as (and most recommended for the helpful kind) projectiles, such as barrels.
Buzzies inhabit the later levels of Juicy Jungle; to name them in order, Jelly Jamboree, Beehive Brawl and Jammin' Jams. However, from the stage listing point of view, Buzzies actually first appear in the temple level of Sea Breeze Cove, Spinning Spines.
Trivia
- In the game, there is concept artwork for a swarm of small creatures very similar to Buzzies. It is part of the second "Hidden Kong Temple" picture, which can be accessed in the Extras menu after the player collects all five Puzzle Pieces in Bopopolis. The picture depicts character design for implemented and potential creatures that are/would have been found in Autumn Heights, with the Buzzy swarm being one of them. It is unknown why they were excluded as gameplay elements from the game.
