Template:Levelbox Bessie Bass's Battleship is fourth level of World 3 in Yoshi's Island DS, which acts as Bessie Bass's home.

Layout

Our dinosaur hero begins the level at the front of the titular ship. If the player heads left, they will find the first flower by throwing an egg just underneath the dragon-head carved onto the ship's bow.

Once heading back onto the ship, the decks are mostly filled with enemies and cannons, though there are many coins as well, several of which are red. Atop the second mast sits one of the red coins and the second flower. There are also some funnels on the ship which act as warp pipes which lead to different areas inside the ship. Should the player enter the one at the front, they will find themselves in a room full of Gooey Goons and Crabbles, and more clusters of coins with some red ones here and there. They will also find some stars in this area by using Baby Mario to hit the Mario Blocks.

If they go down the second funnel, the player lands in a different part of the room, infested with Para-Koopas and more Crabbles, and yet another hoard of coins with more reds in the mix. There is also a door in this area which leads the Yellow Yoshi to another room, which is filled with Koopa Troopas and Pirate Guys. The player must also break vases in this room to find keys, which are required to unlock further areas. The third flower is also in this room, which can only be earned by spitting a Koopa shell towards it as it is impossible to collect otherwise. Another door in the room leads to another area.

At this point, the level becomes rather maze-like. In this room, there are two doors, but one is being blocked by a wall, so the Yoshi can only use the first one. Doing that will lead him back onto the deck, where going down the third funnel will lead to a room with Tap-Taps more pirate enemies, and a door in the room will lead to the other side of the area with two doors, where Potted Ghosts and a key (which is needed) await the dinosaur. Using the second door, the Yoshi will enter yet another room of Pirate Guys, though a pipe at the top brings the player back on deck where if they go down the fourth funnel, they'll enter a dimly-lit room with a Lunge Fish and the last of the red coins, which can only be collected by throwing eggs, as the player will be eaten by the fish if they try to collect them otherwise.

Should the player go back on deck and head left, they'll find a locked door which they can enter by using the key. This leads them to a room with Boos, and the player must avoid them while descending down a staircase, which leads them to the final room before the boss, which has a middle ring next to the boss door at the far left.

The boss fight itself is rather straightforward -- whenever Bessie Bass leaps out of the rising water, the Yoshi can hit her with an egg, which can be collected by swallowing Pirate Guys on surrounding rafts. Doing this several times will defeat Bessie, putting an end to this long level.
