File descriptions[edit]

Hello there! I am messaging to tell you that many of your recent file uploads have insufficient descriptions. Unused columns have not been removed, appropriate categories weren't added, and simply listing the source as "TASVideos" tells other users nothing about where and how you obtained the file. While we do greatly appreciate your contributions, guidelines are there for a reason. This is not an official warning, and you are not in trouble, but please go back to the files you previously uploaded and fix the issues mentioned. — Super Leaf stamp from Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury.eviemaybe (talk / contributions) 20:40, December 22, 2025 (EST)

"{{uncategorized}}" should also be replaced with a category link, in the following format:

[[Category:Super Mario Bros. screenshots]]

For a sprite, replace this with "(game title) assets"; for artwork, "(game title) artwork"; and so on. If a specific category doesn't exist, just use "(game title) images". Small Mario sprite from Super Mario Bros. Mario JC 07:01, December 23, 2025 (EST)

Reminder[edit]

Please stop not properly filling in file descriptions on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing.
If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it.

Please read the above messages and keep them in mind when uploading. Small Mario sprite from Super Mario Bros. Mario JC 07:54, December 23, 2025 (EST)

I'm lazy![edit]

That's all

That's not an excuse to leave the summaries unfilled; as a rule everyone is required to do it when uploading files, and it's a hassle for other users to do it for you. There's no rush getting these images out. Small Mario sprite from Super Mario Bros. Mario JC 07:59, December 23, 2025 (EST)

Warning[edit]

Warning icon This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (failure to properly fill in file descriptions) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site.
If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it.

You have continued to leave unhelpful, incomplete file descriptions that fail to adequately explain the image. Take, for example, File:DKJuniorLeftoverMario.png. What is the image itself? What file was this image originally sourced from? What edits were made using the Turbowarp program? What is the Turbowarp program? None of these have been specified, and no justification has been given beyond you literally saying that you're just lazy. Laziness is not an excuse for files that are of dubious quality and with dubious explanations for what they are, especially when the vagueness of just saying "they were edited" (in the source parameter, rather than the actual parameter for explaining the edits) explains nothing. Many of the sites mentioned are way too large and expansive to track down the image of origin, and in one case, it was from an active spam website, which was linked and namedropped, serving as an active hazard for other editors.

In the future, please specify:

  1. What the subject of the image is.
  2. A more specific source than just a website's name (and that said website is actually safe to browse).
  3. (If you know who created the image) who the artist is.
  4. (If the image has been edited) what those edits are.
  5. (If the image is based on a file on the wiki) what that file is.

Last Warning[edit]

Last warning icon This is your last warning. The next time you break the rules in any way (such as failure to properly fill in file descriptions), you will be blocked from editing the Super Mario Wiki.
If you feel this last warning was undeserved, you may appeal it.

This has continued to be a pattern. Beside the dubious sourcing (why is the image taken from "basically a port of" the source, rather than the source outright?), the aboutfiles have continued to go un-filled out. Laziness is no reason to not fill out and explain the images accordingly, and if this persists, you may be issued a temporary edit block.

Please remember to fill in, at the very least, parameter 1 of the aboutfile, specifying the subject of the file itself. The subject parameter is used both to assist in searches, but as a fallback in the event the file cannot load for one reason or another. In addition to listing a source in the second parameter, and, instead of listing edits inside the second parameter, listing them in the fourth parameter. If you do not have anything to add to a parameter (if you do not know the artist, if there are no edits, or if there are no alternative versions of the files), remove those parameters outright, rather than leaving them untouched. In addition, many of your files have been uploaded upscaled, at a higher-than-usual resolution. Whenever possible, try to upload the files at their original resolutions. I am no longer gonna submit images to the site.[edit]

It just takes too much work, and I also hate going to my files to delete my submitted files. Sorry.
— The preceding unsigned comment was added by ItsMeAMarioWahoo (talk).

The reason why submitting images takes a fair amount of work is because users prefer images to be high quality and descrptive with their parameters properly filled out and categories added. Also, only admins can delete files. Regardless, not filling out the parameters or descriptions of an upload or file properly is not a good reason to have it deleted. Files are usually deleted if they are duplicates, unused for long periods of time, or if a better quality file/image is found. Don't beat yourself up too much over this. I had to learn how to upload files as well, but it's worth the effort once you get the hang of it. Mari0fan100 (talk) 00:02, December 31, 2025 (EST)
