Proposal draft
Determining music terminology
This is originally part of Evie's proposal, which seeks to reorganize the music coverage in this wiki as well as redefining music terminology used to describe elements of music. I have more ideas regarding the latter that it is split into this proposal, so here it is, a proposal for determining the terms we use to describe music.
As a musician, I have noticed that the terms we currently use for our music coverage isn't the best. For example, looking at the sound test pages, the entries in a game's soundtrack are named "songs", which is arguable. Before you call me pedantic, I have no problem with calling any musical work a "song" in daily speech - that's just how language works. But it's important to note that this is a comprehensive encyclopedia, and our wording, per the Manual of Style, should be professional, and using "song" in such a context makes the article feel less credible. Hence, I would like to propose this set of terminology which we would use to describe elements of music.

Chinese section of "foreign names" template to support both Mandarin and Cantonese
Implemented.
Specific features that might be more difficult to implement, but would be worthy to be documented here:
- For traditional Chinese only, if only
RC
is filled for a particular row but notRM
, the Chinese text in that row should be displayed with the standard printing orthography ofzh-hant-hk
(see below: #CJK ideographs orthography sandbox). Otherwise,zh-hant
should be displayed.
|
|
- The default parameter
R
can be placed afterRM
andRC
such that it may be used to document any other Chinese topolect readings if needed. This would not affect existing pages that useR
exclusively instead ofRM
.
