The 'Shroom:Issue 107/Ultimate Character Tournament

Back in September 2009, Ralphfan (talk) posted the idea of doing the Ultimate Character Tournament — a series of polls in a bracket-style "tournament" to determine the best character from several video game series. Originally, it was supposed to coincide with the anniversary festivities in 2010, but due to skepticism from the committee, the project was supported by The 'Shroom instead and became more closely affiliated with the publication. Planning meetings were held throughout the last few months of 2009, and the event ran from January 2010 through August 2010. It was considered one of the first major events that The 'Shroom had ever sponsored and was widely successful, pulling in hundreds of votes for each poll that was posted.
Five years later, The 'Shroom staff decided to host a second Ultimate Character Tournament to commemorate both the fifth anniversary of the original event and Issue 100! 72 major "participants" from 30 different franchises were placed into brackets and faced off against each other, narrowing down to the Ultimate Character as decided by voters. The final round of voting occurred last month, and the results are in!

Thank you all for having participated in the Ultimate Character Tournament 2015. I had a particularly fun time hosting the event this year and seeing the results pour in. There were several surprises along the way, and ties that I did not even expect to see. I hope to see another one be done soon; the UCT event is a great idea that can be expounded upon and turned into an extremely interactive and entertaining event. I can already envision a third one with a logical bracket set-up, character artwork being made by members of the community, and even a story-line being added to make it more entertaining. Should we pick the idea back up some time in the future, I hope to work closely with whoever hosts it to perhaps see these additions be made.
I hope you enjoyed the tournament through these past several months. Here's to the next one!
