How does this count??[edit]
Does this seriously count? Multiple of these are arrangements of the Fairy Fountain theme from Zelda, which already feels like a weird gray spot but then 2 of them are from Smash and not connected to Mario in ANY notable way, and those are the arrangements that push it to the required 8.
And yes I know the Fairy Fountain theme is an arrangement of this but it's still dumb. BiggestMan 19:09, June 18, 2024 (EDT)

canceled by proposer
A little less than 1 week ago I found this article and was thoroughly confused on how it counts (See above), because while it TECHNICALLY appears in 8 pieces of Mario-related media all of the appearances outside of remakes of SMB3 (and the related TV show) are instead arrangements of the Fairy Fountain theme from The Legend of Zelda, which IS an arrangement of the theme the article is about, and I KINDA understand the inclusion of Donkey Konga, I don't agree but I understand it. I do however NOT UNDERSTAND why the 2 Smash Bros. arrangements are counted, as those arrangements are NOT meant to be connected to Mario (or related series) by ANYONE who listens to them in ANY context, and if those 2 are not counted it doesn't reach the necessary 8 arrangements.
If people disagree then i'm fine with it, just seeing if the public agrees.
Canceled it because I realised this page technically follows all rules and was doing nothing wrong. TECHNICALLY.

Support[edit]
- Biggestman (talk) Per Map 3 Proposal (yeah that's all I could come up with)
Oppose[edit]
- Hewer (talk) I think this qualifies per the established rules, since "any form of a theme" counts, and Smash games are "Super Mario-related pieces of media".
- Pseudo (talk) Even though this is mostly known as a Zelda theme by this point, it still originates in the Mario franchise. It's definitely something of an original case but still definitely fits into the scope of this wiki (especially since its appearances in the Zelda series are only summarized here, and not discussed in-depth).
- Camwoodstock (talk) Per Hewer & Pseudo. Even if it only meets our guidelines "TECHNICALLY", we think we can make an exception just for the unique role it plays in both Mario games and the Zelda games. Short of actual crossover events, games called Links Awakening, or characters called "Talon", it's pretty rare for the Zelda and Mario series to crossover this blatantly--and while the leitmotif is a stretch, well, leitmotifs are also pretty dang malleable, it turns out! ;P
Comments[edit]
@Hewer While this does TECHNICALLY qualify according to the rules, it really feels like such an intensely weird case that it.... shouldn't. Yes, it is an arrangement featured in "Super Mario-related media", it's not intended to be "Super Mario-related". idk if that makes any sense but I hope it does.BiggestMan 07:20, June 24, 2024 (EDT)
Separating this theme and Fairy Fountain's appearances[edit]

Separate 5-0
Given that apparently more work has gone into this page since the previous proposal, and we have an official statement that this theme's similarity to the Fairy Fountain theme is a coincidence, it would be best to just completely divorce the two, right? We can have a passing mention of the similarities and the interview statement, but we shouldn't count Smash arrangements of the Fairy Fountain theme, or the Fairy Fountain theme appearing in Zelda games, as an appearance of this theme. There's still enough appearances without them for this page to remain.

- DryKirby64 (talk) Per above.
- PrincessPeachFan (talk): If it's a coincidence, we shouldn't be listing it.
- Waluigi Time (talk) Game Kaishi is in the same situation for DK64 and we just cover that as a note.
- Camwoodstock (talk) With the reworked proposal to simply acknowledge the coincidence/the official recognition that it's a coincidence rather than cull the information altogether, we're far more confident in supporting this. We definitely shouldn't be asserting something the developers confirmed was unintentional as intentional, but recognizing the coincidence as exactly that is very much worthwhile.
- Power Flotzo (talk) Per all.
Oppose[edit]
Camwoodstock (talk) If the interview in question could be provided, we would honestly be down for at least a heavy reworking of the section, rather than nuking it from orbit. It would be nice to clarify that, no, it isn't actually intentional, but it has been officially acknowledged by the developers as being a coincidence. That, to us, feels a bit more productive than just... Culling it altogether. (Before anyone asks; we don't think this would have much a leg to stand on for moving to List of rumors and urban legends, as it's less so a rumor/urban legend, and more just a misconception.)
Comments[edit]
I first brought up this proposal on June 2nd but I've reformatted it to have the proper proposal formatting. I'm not sure if I should have extended the deadline but I was conservative in keeping it at the standard two weeks out. DryKirby64 (talk) 04:30, June 10, 2025 (EDT)
@Camwoodstock: It is cited on the main page (here, for convenience). When an interviewer points out the similarities, Kondo rather honestly says he didn't notice them until then; by contrast, he's very upfront about the reuse of the Warp Whistle theme. Really my proposal is just to make it so Zelda appearances aren't counted in the appearances section. If we still want to talk about the similarities, that's fine by me. DryKirby64 (talk) 12:21, June 10, 2025 (EDT)
- Gotcha! Though, if it's fine to note the similarities under the pretense of "acknowledged by developers, but confirmed unintentional" if this passes, you might want to note that in the proposal, since it's presently about... well, Removing all. ;P

- Right, the name I chose is a bit unclear, oops... Let me clarify it. Thank you ^_^;; DryKirby64 (talk) 12:54, June 10, 2025 (EDT)
