Talk:Main Theme - Yoshi's New Island

MarioWiki:Redirects tells us that redirects are essentially a free roll. Because of that, as long as a redirect's existence isn't detrimental to the wiki it gets to stay. "Main Theme - Yoshi's New Island" is not detrimental to the wiki. It does not get in the way of people looking for other pages. It is not silly, so it does not make the site appear less serious. I argue "Main Theme - Yoshi's New Island" is actually a helpful page. Someone might copy "Main Theme - Yoshi's New Island" from a listing of songs in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that isn't on this site into the search bar of this site, and this redirect helps that user. (It is in the (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sound test as "Main Theme - Yoshi's New Island".) Therefore, this page gets to stand. I'm not saying "run off and make a redirect for every song name as listed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" just to match this page; that's a lot of effort for negligible benefit. But just happening to have these redirects isn't a net negative, therefore I see no reason to spend effort in deleting them. Salmancer (talk) 13:25, January 8, 2026 (EST)

If that exact formatting is actually important, then why doesn't literally any other theme have a redirect like this then? Wilben (talk) 21:16, January 8, 2026 (EST)
I'm just saying, if this kind of formatting is actually a good thing, then shouldn't all musical themes with an identifier have a redirect like this? And if not, then why should this be the exception? Wilben (talk) 00:25, January 9, 2026 (EST)
To avoid sounding like a broken record, I'm going to point you back to Talk:Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee). But to add: Making redirects is a really boring activity. No one is getting up and going, "I want to make a redirect for every [arbitrary case]!" Making redirects does not allow for any user creativity and the end product not interesting to show to other people. At least categorizing articles creates an interesting end product in the Category page. So, yeah, I fully expect that the wiki would not have a full complete set of redirects for every possibility. That's fine! As I said eariler, people are not expected to go and make redirects for every entry of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sound test just for the sake of having them all. But if an editor of the wiki for some unfathomable reason put the exact text string "Title Theme - Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars" into a search bar expecting to find the page Title Theme (Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars), then they might spend the 2 minutes or so to make the redirect to make reaching the intended page easier for the next soul who for some unfathomable reason put the exact text string "Title Theme - Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Tipping Stars" into the search bar. What's wrong with holding the door open for the next person to pass through? Salmancer (talk) 20:38, January 10, 2026 (EST)
