Talk:Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)
Delete[edit]
MarioWiki:Redirects tells us that redirects are essentially a free roll. Because of that, as long as a redirect's existence isn't detrimental to the wiki it gets to stay. "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)" is not detrimental to the wiki. It does not get in the way of people looking for other pages. It is not silly, so it does not make the site appear less serious. I argue "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)" is actually a helpful page. Someone might copy "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)" from a listing of songs in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate that isn't on this site into the search bar of this site, and this redirect helps that user. (It is in the (Super Smash Bros. Ultimate sound test as "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)".) Therefore, this page gets to stand. I'm not saying "run off and make a redirect for every song name as listed in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate" just to match this page; that's a lot of effort for negligible benefit. But just happening to have these redirects isn't a net negative, therefore I see no reason to spend effort in deleting them. Salmancer (talk) 13:45, January 8, 2026 (EST)

- That section doesn't say what you think it says. It says:
- We should delete redirects that are fits of madness. That's something like making "Bratty Small Bowser" redirect to Bowser Jr. I literally just made that up. "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)" isn't nonsensical: its directly from an actual work of Super Mario adjacent fiction.
- We should delete redirects that are too general. For example "plumber" could mean any number of characters. Mario, Luigi, and probably some extras from The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! or something. "Plumber" would get in the way of too many people looking for articles, so its not a redirect. "Ground Theme - Super Mario Bros. 3 (Melee)" very specifically stands for one song, so it isn't too general. Salmancer (talk) 19:56, January 8, 2026 (EST)
- I still think a redirect for an arrangement that has a similar name, if not the same name, as the original theme is incredibly redundant, especially when there aren't any other arrangements that have a redirect like this. What makes this particular arrangement so special that it needs its own redirect? Wilben (talk) 21:11, January 8, 2026 (EST)
- It's not other arrangements of musical themes like "Precious One" from Super Mario Galaxy 2, where it has a completely different name to the original theme, so a redirect for it makes perfect sense. The name of this arrangement, on the other hand, is way too similar to the original theme that it makes it redundant, especially since several other arrangements of certain themes tend to also share a similar name. It's not like we need a redirect for every different arrangement of "Everybody Party" or "Bustling Noisily" for example, as their respective arrangements all share the same name anyway. - Yes, most of the wiki is supposed to be neat and follow law and order. Redirects are explicitly allowed to be messy and unkempt. They're function first, form second in a way almost every other article on this website isn't. (Which makes sense, because as long as there aren't any double redirects running around normal readers will never see a redirect page.) So the fact this doesn't "match" other song pages doesn't matter. If people were "grading" the wiki, the consistency of the redirects wouldn't be on the rubric. (The number might: people expect for a wiki to correct near misses for searches, but The important part is that this redirect makes the life of [arbitrary probably low percentage] percent of readers slightly easier, without making [arbitrary percentage] percent of readers lives any harder because coming across this redirect is rare because of its specific formatting, which makes the wiki [arbitrary probably low percentage] percent better. There's no reason to say we should deprive [arbitrary probably low percentage] percent of readers of this useful redirect in pursuit of creating a perfect network of redirects, especially when I'd argue having a perfect network of redirects is not one of the goals of the wiki. We're arguing over a harmless redirect here. If there's some validity to the redirect (in this case, it's literally the name for the track in Ultimate), it's not getting deleted. I'm removing the notices.
