(First topic)[edit]

Whats species is he? He looks like those hill things.Knife (talk)

Wonky and Charlieton must be the same specie...but what specie are they? That's the question! Paper Jorge

I've noticed a few guys in PM: TTYD are of unidentified species (the reporter, Glitz Pit guards, etc.); but anyway Charlieton looks sorta like a fat human. -- Sir Grodus

Human[edit]

It is unclear if he's a human. Paper Jorge

Don't blame me, I said sorta like. -- Sir Grodus

I'm talking to Waluigi Freak 99 :-P. Paper Jorge
The bit of skin he has there probably means he is a human. There's no clear-cut confirmation from Nintendo that Waluigi is human, either. For all we know, he's a robot or something. But he's still regarded as human.Waluigi Freak 99 17:23, 17 January 2007 (EST)
He looks like... a walrus. Cool. A GIF. Featuring me. Cool. 3D, who has an uncle who looks like that! Not really. Cool. A GIF. Featuring me. Cool.
So does Wario.Waluigi Freak 99 17:52, 17 January 2007 (EST)

Personal opinions on appearance doesn't really work when there's next to nothing to back up your claim. Either find a quote saying he's somehow human or take the info off the page. Many things in the Marioverse look like humans, get over it.

The Wario jab was supposed to be a joke, not an argument. And I really could care less about this whole ordeal. You don't have to be rude about it. -- Waluigi Freak 99.

inventory[edit]

Are you sure the inventory changes based on the date/time/progress? I remember it being said on SGDQ that it changes when you move 2 areas away ~DrkDragonz66

Unknown species?[edit]

He's clearly a human. Should he really be listed as an unknown species? --174.102.9.42 23:52, 24 April 2016 (EDT)

Compared to other humans, that's not a human. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
As far as humans in Mario are concerned, he is one. --174.102.9.42 01:55, 25 April 2016 (EDT)
Besides his skin colour, he looks completely different to any other human in the series. Compared to Paper Mario alone, he isn't a human. No arms, a head that directly segues into the body with no clear division, a general form that simply looks different... That's not a human. Hello, I'm Time Turner.
There is no reason to assume he is a human. No ears, no nose, an amorphous build, no specific mention... that's everything against it. For it? Bipedal and skin color. Mario (Santa)'s map icon from Mario Kart Tour Mario-HOHO! (Talk / Stalk) 16:18, 25 April 2016 (EDT)

Is Charlieton actually a father?[edit]

So, today I learned that the remake removed the line about Charlieton's kids in college. This got me digging though, and it seems like these kids are never mentioned in both the original and remake Japanese localizations. Assuming this was just a quirk of the original localization, should we really include Charlieton in Category:Parents? I'm really not sure here. I know our guidelines on canon say not to prioritize one source over another, but this feels kinda like a Bonetail situation to me? Like, she was always intended to be female but the original English screwed that up. And when it was corrected in the remake, we changed how we refer to her too. Of course, we still mention the original localization referring to her as male on her page, as we will mention Charlieton's dialogue in the original game here. It's just a matter of the category. Technetium (talk) 22:39, May 29, 2025 (EDT)

"Putting my kids through college" seems like a metaphor for "making me rich" to me, anyway. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:45, May 29, 2025 (EDT)
Especially when he repeats the line every time you buy all his current items… If you're wondering, it seems it was removed in the remake so they could clarify that no, he isn't out of items forever and that he'll have more in stock soon (this clarification was also added to the Japanese). Technetium (talk) 22:47, May 29, 2025 (EDT)
That's the thing though. I don't think they removed that extra line in English to be closer to the "true Japanese canon" or anything. It was just a throwaway joke that didn't make much sense to keep given the actual context and the added clarification in Japanese. Nintendo's localizations add in little embellishments like this all the time and they rarely get taken out in remakes unless they're deemed particularly egregious (e.g. a blatant error or something potentially offensive). PaperSplash (talk) 23:19, May 29, 2025 (EDT)
It's not like the remake changed his dialogue to say "Thanks for buying everything! I'll spend all the money on myself, since I do not and never have had any immediate family members!" He just doesn't mention any family on Switch or in the original Japanese, but he does in the original English. I don't think the removal of kids was a "correction", the Japanese text was simply altered to let players know that he will restock later, so naturally the localization has to also convey that, so goodbye flavor text.--PopitTart (talk) 23:46, May 29, 2025 (EDT)
That's also a good point. PaperSplash (talk) 01:41, May 30, 2025 (EDT)
