(First topic)[edit]
There are a lot articles that can be refered to by the name "Bat", so I don't think the page at "Bat" should be one that is only conjecturally named. How about making Fang the primary entry? Time Questions 11:09, 25 February 2010 (EST)
- Depends on whether "Bat" for Fang is an official name, and whether it has been used more often than Fang. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 08:09, 26 February 2010 (EST)
- I'm not sure if "Bat" for Fang is official, I just don't think the primary entry for "Bat" should be a conjecturally named article when there are so many other possibilities. If we don't find any official "Bat" entry, maybe the disambiguation page should be moved here. Time Questions 08:28, 26 February 2010 (EST)
Okay, we decided to move it, but I'm not sure what to call the new article, as this bat appears in both Donkey Kong and Mario vs. Donkey Kong. - Cobold (talk · contribs) 17:25, 5 March 2010 (EST)
Name change[edit]
Could someone please change the "Swooper" back to Komori? PrincessPeachFan (talk) 17:19, March 4, 2024 (EST)
Merge to "Bat (animal)"?[edit]
I recently retooled one of my earlier bat pages to cover generic bats as a whole, as seen here. This enemy seems to be considered a generic, non-specific bat in both English and Japanese text, and merging would align with how we treat enemy appearances of jellyfish and other such generic critters. While this has vague similarities to a non-generic bat from DK94, that one was a bloodsucker and this one is not. Thoughts? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:14, May 28, 2025 (EDT)
- I think it's too derived from DK94 bat, especially in the remake where it was surprisingly redesigned to look just like it. LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:54, June 1, 2025 (EDT)
- It really doesn't beyond "being a bat with a head," IMO. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 19:59, June 1, 2025 (EDT)
- The original looks like bootleg Swooper, but the remake looks a lot like that Daijiten artwork. LinkTheLefty (talk) 20:04, June 1, 2025 (EDT)
- All three look like generic, vaguely stylized bats. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 21:22, June 1, 2025 (EDT)
- Agree to disagree. Importantly, what about the behavior? Getting rid of the bloodsucking element seems par for the course when most of the unique (albeit kind of un-Mario) life-lost animations were removed, and the contact animation was changed once again in the remake to go along with the cartoonier animations. Part of me wonders if this doesn't have Dorakyū's name just because the original Game Boy Shogakukan guide had mostly generic names for the enemies; in fact, it's also komori there (in katakana). LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:59, June 1, 2025 (EDT)
- Interesting, perhaps. What of Shovalot and Monchee? Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 22:11, June 1, 2025 (EDT)
- Seems they're just generically called「
敵 キャラ」(teki kyara, enemy chara(cter)) and「サル」(saru, monkey), respectively. I didn't add the original Shogakukan guide names on the wiki because they look like descriptive placeholders rather than proper names, with Spark and the Thwomp platform being few exceptions.
