Hourglasses are collectibles (referred to in the game's description as "Pick-Ups") appearing in Donkey Kong Country Barrel Maze. Alongside bunches of Bananas, they are one of two items that the player can collect that has a physical effect instead of only adding to their score.

Upon collecting an Hourglass, 30 seconds are added to the total time that the player has to complete the level. 250 points are also added to the player's score. Like most of the game's other items, Hourglasses are fully optional to collect. However, select levels (such as the seventh) feature a very short time limit, which can be extended by collecting Hourglasses.
