Donkey Kong: Coloring & Activity Book is the second book of the Donkey Kong coloring/activity books under the Donkey Kong line. The book was written by Dean Lorey, Fran Rizzo, and James Sherman and was released in 1982.[1]

Plot synopsis[edit]

Continuing from the events of the previous book, Donkey Kong runs off with Pauline as a crowd of people watches, with Mario in search of the two. However, Mario soon loses track of Donkey Kong and Pauline when the former escapes through the air, barely able to hear the latter's screams. However, he knows that he must save Pauline, and frantically searches the Video Land Amusement Park, including the bumper cars, the hall of mirrors, the shooting gallery, and the funhouse, but to no avail.

Having almost searched the entire amusement park, Mario then realizes that there is only one place that Donkey Kong could be: the haunted house, the attraction he had been working on in the previous book. Mario is afraid to enter the haunted house, but Pauline's scream confirms that it is Donkey Kong's hiding place, and Mario musters his courage and barges inside. The inside of the haunted house is very dark, and Mario calls for Pauline. As he slowly turns past a corner, a skeleton pops out from a nearby panel. Mario, frightened, jumps back, but lands into the lap of a vampire inside a coffin. Mario is not deterred, and runs towards Pauline. However, he fails to notice a trapdoor underneath him, which opens and drops him into the middle of a cemetery.

In the cemetery, ghosts and ghouls rise from the graves, but Mario continues running to Pauline. Pauline's screams become louder as he runs to her, and Mario guesses that she is behind a set of doors. He pushes up the doors, which lead into a mad scientist's laboratory. Mario finds Pauline tied to an operating table with a doctor mannequin holding a saw and scalpel over her, but Donkey Kong swings across a hanging light bulb and kicks Mario into a doctor mannequin. He then jumps on his back, but Mario swings his hammer on his foot, causing him to stagger and fall out a window from the pain. Mario and Pauline run out of the haunted house, with the book ending with Pauline hugging Mario and giving him a kiss for being her hero.
