What exactly is this category for?

The description claims it's for "Variants of the characters in the Super Mario franchise when power-ups or items are used." However, half the characters listed don't seem to fall very neatly into this category.

Some of them (Launch Star, Daisy, Mario(?)) seem like they're only here because of their origin character is a shape-shifter, some of them don't seem to have any obvious reason for their inclusion at all (Donkey Kong, Koopa Troopa, Hologram(?)), and some of them aren't technically even transformations (Ultra Barrel DK, Mr. L* *although his mentality is certainly transformed.)

I think this page could use some clean-up and reclassification for what qualifies for inclusion in this category, such as removing any shapeshifter exclusive "forms" and/or perhaps adding clarifications to certain characters listed here. (Such as Klump, Yoshi(?), and the various forms that seem to be related to the Kings from Super Mario Bros. 3.) Wandering Poplin (talk) 21:48, January 13, 2026 (EST)

Mario and Wario might be here because of Super Mario 64 DS. Though if that's why, where's Luigi? Ultra Barrel DK probably stands: I think changes lesser than "new gear" have been considered forms.

This feels like a scenario where the category's usage has shifted in a way that necessitates a new description and scope, not a culling of entrants. Some of it is very much "this category should mostly match articles that use Template:Form infobox", which from a "wikis should be consistent about how they classify their contents" standpoint, makes a lot of sense. So if we're culling entries from this category, we would at the same time need to be looking at Form infobox's uses and/or misuses. Salmancer (talk) 22:11, January 13, 2026 (EST)
