The avalanche chasing Donkey Kong and Hoofer down the mountain.

The avalanche[citation needed] first appears in the Nintendo GameCube game Donkey Kong Jungle Beat and reprise its role in its enhanced port for the Wii, New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat. In both iterations, it is found in Silver Snow Peak of the Orange Kingdom. As Donkey Kong and Hoofer are running down the mountain, an avalanche approaches the heroes at a fast pace behind them. If they touch it, they will take damage. In New Play Control! Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, a giant snowball must be removed to escape the avalanche. After the two successfully get away from it, it is not seen anywhere else in the game.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

The avalanche[citation needed] returns in Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and its enhanced Nintendo Switch port of the same name. It first and only appears in the Donkey Kong Island level Cliffside Slide. However, unlike in the iterations of Donkey Kong Jungle Beat, touching the avalanche will cause Donkey Kong, Diddy Kong, Dixie Kong, and Cranky Kong (as well as Funky Kong in the Nintendo Switch port) to lose a life, making it a replacement for pits in various levels and lava in both Meltdown Mayhem and Volcano Dome
