Nokobons are a black-shelled sub-species of the Koopa Troopas found in the game Super Mario Land. Nokobons explode shortly after being stomped. They have bombs as shells, implying that they may be related to Bob-ombs. Luckily, the blast radius was not very large. They replace Koopa Troopas in Super Mario Land, as it would've taken longer to program the richochet effects of Koopa shells on the Game Boy.

Nokobons are the most common enemy in the game, appearing in all levels except for 2-3 (the underwater level), and 4-3 (the flying level). They move like Red Koopa Troopas as well. Nokobons resemble ordinary Koopa Troopas with a black shell. The Black Shells from Mario Kart Arcade GP are possibly Nokobon shells.

In Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, Koopa Troopas return as regular enemies, but also a different type of possible Nokobon is featured. In this game, they're called Noko Bombettes.
