UploadsEdit

Hello, Pierce Ng. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly categorize the file. It's simple to learn how to do so. Just search for the correct category by starting with the following groups:

Images Audio/video files

When uploading, copy the full title of the category and insert it in square brackets into the summary text box below the {{aboutfile}} template, replacing the {{uncategorized}} template entirely. If you're using the upload function from the text editor, simply add the category link to the description. For example, files related to the game Super Mario World would use:

[[Category:Super Mario World images]]
or
[[Category:Super Mario World media files]]

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Keep in mind that some files can belong to multiple categories. Do not put images into the media files category, or vice versa. If you continue uploading files without categorizing them correctly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Hello, Pierce Ng. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must correctly use the {{aboutfile}} template. What you were doing looks like this, and it is an inconvenience for other users to fix up the template. It is simple to learn how to format it correctly. The pre-loaded coding is shown below.

{{aboutfile
|1=Subject of the image
|2=Where you found the image
|3=Artist
|4=Describe edits, if any
|5=Other versions (use file link)
}}

Just replace the necessary parts with that corresponding information, and remove the entire line of the variable(s) you don't use. If you do not wish to use the template at all, then it is acceptable to simply remove it before you upload the file. Please consider the above information before uploading more files. If you continue using {{aboutfile}} incorrectly, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

Please do not leave the summaries unfilled. New uploads need to have the relevant details filled in and a category added as described above.   Mario JC 09:25, September 18, 2021 (EDT)

This reminder has been overturned by the MarioWiki staff. The original reminder can still be viewed.

Hello, Pierce Ng. Good job on your recent uploads, but when uploading files, keep in mind that you must apply the proper license. A full list of licenses can be found in the file copyright tags category, but the following are the most common:

  • {{photo}} - Used for photographs of real-life subjects.
  • {{art}} - Used for artwork of something that is not a character.
  • {{comic-scene}} - Used for scans of a comic.
  • {{comic-cover}} - Used for covers of comic books.
  • {{tv-screenshot}} - Used for screenshots of television shows.
  • {{film-screenshot}} - Used for screenshots of movies.
  • {{video-screenshot}} - Used for other screenshots, such as those from YouTube.

When uploading, select the license from the drop-down box below the summary text box, or add the license manually after uploading or if you're using the upload function from the text editor. For example, artwork of Mario would use {{character-artwork}}.

Please consider the above information before uploading more files. Don't include multiple copyright templates; choose the one that you feel best fits the file. If you continue uploading files without applying the correct license, then a warning will be issued. Thank you for reading, and keep contributing.

You are still not categorizing the files correctly and you're not giving them licenses too. Or an aboutfile summary.  WildWario (talk) 10:08, September 18, 2021 (EDT)

They did add a license, you added a duplicate one.   Mario JC 10:38, September 18, 2021 (EDT)

Please remember to add categories to your files.   Mario JC 10:31, June 4, 2023 (EDT)

Image categories only need to be "images", not anything specific like "screenshots" etc.   Mario JC 21:50, August 29, 2023 (EDT)

You don't need any categories other than "(game) images". Also, make sure not to remove the closing curly brackets }} for the aboutfile template in the summary.   Mario JC 19:12, November 5, 2023 (EST)

Files from the wikiEdit

Since this is the first time I am editing the photo, how about something that I need to help such as licenses. Pierce Ng (talk) 19:37, September 18, 2021 (EDT)Pierce Ng

Prezzy appearancesEdit

You're going too far with the microgame appearances. Yes, the Prezzies come from microgames, but that doesn't mean listing every single microgame that has that object in some form (like listing "Super Mario Land" for a generic mushroom). There are microgames that prominently feature these specific Prezzies in these specific designs - we should be listing those microgames only.   Mario JC 08:27, September 19, 2021 (EDT)

Show previewEdit

If you're trying something out like a gallery and want to see what it looks like, preview it first by clicking on the "Show preview" button rather than saving the edit multiple times, otherwise it floods the recent changes and history pages. That way if it doesn't work, you can go back and fix it before publishing the edit. Help:Gallery explains how to make a gallery.   Mario JC 22:31, September 19, 2021 (EDT)

Broken file linksEdit

Don't add links to files that don't exist until they've been uploaded.   Mario JC 22:59, September 20, 2021 (EDT)

TriviaEdit

Please double-check facts and in-game content before adding points like these next time. These points saying something is the second/third/etc. become less noteworthy the further they go anyway, so it'd be better to avoid adding such points altogether.   Mario JC 09:35, September 24, 2021 (EDT)

Please stop drawing similarities for something that's too general or too common in media. The Caution: Slippery pose (someone sticking their hands and legs out) is not a unique pose at all, and the Web Surfer sound is only similar in that it's a "positive" chime with rising pitch, which many games use. This is the same case as the Wario Bug / Master Hand info. Comparisons would only be worth noting if it's specific and unique. If you're not sure how common something is, ask first whether it's worth noting on the article, or just don't note it altogether.   Mario JC 06:02, October 7, 2021 (EDT)

You're still doing this. You don't need to always compare basic things to other, very specific and arbitrary things.   Mario JC 04:50, January 18, 2022 (EST)

"The"Edit

Don't use the word "the" to refer to something that was never introduced. "The" is a determiner that should be used when you're referring to something specific that was already mentioned, and you use "a" when introducing new things. (For example, you don't use it for "the rats" or "the soccer ball", because we didn't know these existed beforehand, so it should be just "rats" and "a soccer ball". In a sentence like, "There is a ? Block ahead. The ? Block contains a coin," you'd use "the" because it's referring to a specific ? Block we knew about.)   Mario JC 06:22, September 26, 2021 (EDT)

You're still occasionally using "a" to refer to things that have already been established. For example, this should be "the wheelbarrow", because it's already been introduced in the paragraph and we're referring back to it. By saying "a", you're just referring to any random, non-specific wheelbarrow.   Mario JC 20:35, November 24, 2023 (EST)

Two more cases:

Consider reading this and looking up "definite/indefinite articles", and also looking over your past edits to see what was fixed. I'm trying to get you to get the hang of this so you know how to do this on your own, since you're doing a lot of writing in your edits.   Mario JC 07:29, November 27, 2023 (EST)

RE: Ramram (DK vs ARMS)Edit

I'm aware of that, but I don't think it's worth mentioning on the RamRam page. The modes of Min Min's arms aren't really that significant in the scope of this wiki.

Also, "not to be confused with" text is placed above the main article text, not inside it. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 13:06, September 27, 2021 (EDT)

Distinguish notices are only used to distinguish Mario Wiki articles with similar titles, not for distingushing similar names for subjects from different franchises. As far as I'm aware, the ARMS Ramram is completely out of our coverage anyway.   Nightwicked Bowser   20:23, September 27, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Mega bug hand crusherEdit

There are a lot of bosses with giant hands, many of them are bound to use this sort of attack (Tiki Tong, Bouldergeist, Knucklotec, Wham Bam Rock (Master Hand's inspiration) etc.) and it just doesn't seem necessary to compare it. It's also not entirely similar to the Fake-Out Slap; Master Hand's is literally what it says, a fakeout, whereas the Wario Bug's isn't.   Mario JC 01:17, September 30, 2021 (EDT)

Do not alter other users' comments; that was the second time you did that and it's rude to just edit what someone else has said. You will be issued a warning if it happens again.   Mario JC 08:36, September 30, 2021 (EDT)

RE:IMOEdit

It's short for "in my opinion".   (T|C) 20:01, October 2, 2021 (EDT)

Vague writingEdit

Please be more specific in your writing next time. For example, the Crygor's invention edit, and just saying "the banner" or "the sound clip" is not enough, and users may read this and not know what you mean or are referring to.   Mario JC 21:41, October 2, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Halloween WaluigiEdit

He also clearly has fangs, it's less speculative to assume he's just wearing a regular old vampire costume until proven otherwise. Having a top hat doesn't instantly mean it's Jack the Ripper anyway. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 10:55, October 8, 2021 (EDT)

RE: 9 Volt and Kat and Ana colorsEdit

That seems like an arbitrary combination of colours. The article is already going for the colour palettes of the Play-o-pedia backgrounds, which honestly looks better and more consistently coloured. Using two completely different colours just makes them look distracting.   Mario JC 23:22, October 14, 2021 (EDT)

ReminderEdit

Please stop continuously adding unnecessary trivia/points and incorrect points without fact-checking first on the Super Mario Wiki. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. If the action continues, then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing.
If you feel this reminder was undeserved, you may appeal it.

This has happened several times already. As I mentioned before, double-check the facts first, or if it's something like a trivia point, ask first whether it's noteworthy, or just focus edits on something other than factoids like these.   Mario JC 06:37, October 20, 2021 (EDT)

RE: Toad vs Toadette tour trailer background colorEdit

I don't play the game, so I wouldn't know. --  Too Bad! Waluigi Time! 12:25, November 1, 2021 (EDT)

RE:High End Pipe (Golden)Edit

Sorry for the late reply. In my opinion, character variants have these traits:
They are usually named like "Character (Variant)". In this case, "Birdo (Black)". They are basically the main character, but usually with a recolor or an outfit, they share their animations, usually have shared or recolored main character emblems and they probably won't have their own cup. Due to these traits, I consider Birdo (Black) a variant.  WildWario (talk) 08:36, December 5, 2021 (EST)

RE:Only one R/T track for certain tours (excluding Berlin Byways 2)Edit

This may be a bit too complicated for users to understand easily. Plus, this isn't that noteworthy, and I'm not sure why you want to exclude Berlin Byways 2. Also, the original Sydney Sprint's R/T variant also only appeared once during the first Sydney Tour.  WildWario (talk) 04:07, December 8, 2021 (EST)

MissionsEdit

For consistency, you should follow the "Mission" format used on other microgame pages when adding microgame missions.   Mario JC 04:35, December 18, 2021 (EST)

RE:2022 New Years TourEdit

It's speculation that the inclusion of Meowser as a driver is a reference to the tiger. Unless it is noted or implied by Nintendo themselves, this is just a coincidence. They probably just chose Meowser because of 3DS Bowser's Castle.  WildWario (talk) 21:47, December 24, 2021 (EST)

WarningEdit

This is a warning to stop your inappropriate behavior (adding unnecessary points to articles (including tenuous comparisons)) on the Super Mario Wiki. Please adhere to the rules or you will be blocked from editing this site.
If you feel this warning was undeserved, you may appeal it.

Paintball is an actual sport. Also, please don't just assume something "inspires" or is "referencing" something without any proof.   Mario JC 04:03, January 23, 2022 (EST)

I have had enough of this conflictive behaviorEdit

Sorry about a while ago for making any unrelated comparisonsPierce Ng (talk) 04:26, January 23, 2022 (EST)

Pierce Alldrin NgEdit

Do not create sockpuppet accounts to edit under a different name. Multiple accounts are not allowed and you must stick with one account when editing.   Mario JC 04:34, January 27, 2022 (EST)

Last warningEdit

This is your last warning. The next time you break the rules in any way, you will be blocked from editing the Super Mario Wiki.
If you feel this last warning was undeserved, you may appeal it.

Please stop adding useless trivia-like points to articles. Too many of your edits have had to be removed already. As mentioned before, you should ask first before deciding to add the information, not after, or just don't add information like this. Also, remember to sign your comments.   Mario JC 04:57, February 9, 2022 (EST)

RE:April Sydney 2021 TourEdit

I'll re-add the first part (I actually only meant to remove the second part, sorry about that), but the second part is mostly speculative, so I won't re-add that part.  WildWario (talk) 07:47, February 18, 2022 (EST)

RE: Paid Banner RMX Choco Island 2Edit

Yes, but as pointed out on the talk page and the first time it was removed, this has happened before. And "developers plagiarizing the banner" is not what plagiarism is.   Mario JC 23:32, June 15, 2022 (EDT)

RE:Tokyo Tour's missed opportunityEdit

It would be better to mention it in the Tokyo Tour instead, since this is mostly unrelated to the Anniversary Tour and moreso related to the Tokyo Tour's odd choice.  WildWario (talk) 02:49, September 21, 2022 (EDT)

Talk Page ContentEdit

Please do not remove talk page content unless it is flaming, spamming, or vandalism (and your warnings weren't any of those). Thanks. Mari0fan100 (talk) 22:48, September 22, 2022 (EDT)

Forum talkEdit

Talk pages are not for these kinds of comments. If you want to chat about games, go to our forums.   Mario JC 05:26, October 21, 2022 (EDT)

Regarding Singapore Speedway BGMEdit

Hi Pierce Ng, I want to let you know that before your last edit on Singapore Speedway, I was removing the reference to Chinatown BGM (the one with Chinese instrument) in the trivia because I moved it to the music sample, and I'm sure the music change will be covered on Singapore Speedway 3 segment as well. Even though I'm also curious, on which capacity the BGM without synth and percussion is playable in the Chinatown segment... I'm concerned because we were editing at almost same time, that's all. Starry Windy 02:06, January 25, 2023 (EST)

Informal/subjective wordsEdit

Avoid using informal and subjective terms like "Luckily" and "Granted".   Mario JC 06:53, January 26, 2023 (EST)

RE: "False items"Edit

Saying a character "should" have (this specific item) because it makes more sense is subjective. Also, this seems like a fan-made term you or someone else may have made up, and just saying "false items" isn't going to be clear to many readers.   Mario JC 21:45, May 26, 2023 (EDT)

Bwahkura Triple TrollEdit

May I ask where you found the image for that Triple Troll? It's definitely not in the game itself and there doesn't seem to be anything about it on the official Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Twitter account.   Nightwicked Bowser   04:38, June 4, 2023 (EDT)

Microgame commandEdit

You're forgetting the exclamation point (!) at the end of the microgame commands in the infoboxes.   Mario JC 04:24, November 24, 2023 (EST)
