Chomps are aggresize, large sharks that swim around the submerged levels of Donkey Kong Country and Donkey Kong Land. They're pretty big, and move at medium speeds, not too fast for Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong to outrun though. Chomps can only be defeated by using Enguarde the Swordfish.

Several Chomps can be seen swimming around in the background of the trailer for the apparently cancelled game, Donkey Kong Racing. It is possible that Chomps were going to be one of the rideable creatures in this game seeing as another enemy species, Zingers were seen to be rideable.

In Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, a shark resembling a Chomps, though more manic and vicious looking, appears in an underwater race course as an obstacle.

Appearance in Other Media

In the Club Nintendo comic "Donkey Kong Country", two Chomps are trying to attack Diddy and Donkey Kong.

Trivia

  • A shark named Snacker from the game Banjo-Kazooie resembles a large Chomps.
  • Chomps have a resemblance to Sushies, shark-like enemies from the Mario series. Also in the Mario series, Chain Chomps are sometimes referred as just Chomps.
