There isn't currently a discussion for moving Monchee to a new name, and there won't be in the near future--but I have created a section concerning the legitimacy of the "monkey" thing. I'm actually curious to hear your feelings on the points I made. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 17:42, October 27, 2023 (EDT)
- I know, I was referencing that very proposal in my summary. February 16 isn't too far away (unlike The Thousand-Year Door, we have a date for Mario vs. Donkey Kong), and honestly, I think it's a little fruitless to argue for or against it in particular until then. Considering the same development team seems to be in charge of the remake, I'm really not expecting many radical changes English-namewise, and I personally interpret this is as one-off by a promoter who didn't phone in and coordinate with the developers. Confusing "source wars"(?) comment aside, I don't think IP was too off base. But, maybe you're right, and this could very well be a sign of things to come. We'll have to see. We can afford to let it sit still for a while. Maybe there's a broader discussion to be had about the proper identification of generic descriptors for wiki use, but that's more complex as it's often been case-by-case. LinkTheLefty (talk) 18:34, October 27, 2023 (EDT)
- I'd like to clarify that I think it's perfectly reasonable to expect new material to embrace the old "Monchee" name or even go the other route and make some changes. It's why that proposal exists. Though, I believe some manner of accuracy to the "current story", as Miyamoto would put it, is still paramount, and I don't think the way I presented that status quo is disruptive. Indeed there should be a broader discussion on the topic. -- KOOPA CON CARNE 18:54, October 27, 2023 (EDT)
Super Mario RPG artworks
I don't think Mario, Peach and Bowser should use their Super Mario RPG artworks in the infoboxes at all because their designs do differ a bit from usual, like Mario's face and Peach's shorter height. Nightwicked Bowser 15:17, November 10, 2023 (EST)
- Fair enough. Funny because the originals were what the 2D art was imagined to look like in 3D, but now that the art design has evolved, it's the remake that looks more stylized, when it's really just mostly keeping in spirit with the original. I think Peach's height is a minor illusion in that her modern dress design makes her look stockier, and Bowser doesn't look too far off (mainly slightly making his horns bigger and spikes smaller). But I can agree that the characters not using Super Mario RPG top images probably don't need to be changed to the remade versions. LinkTheLefty (talk) 11:16, November 11, 2023 (EST)
Super Mario RPG
Hey! I left a message here about something to do with all the screenshots you found. I wanted to notify you here so you could get around to documenting everything as soon as possible. Would you take a look at what I suggested? Thanks! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 14:15, November 21, 2023 (EST)
Update: I just let the people on The Cutting Room Floor know about what you found (the message I left is here, if you're interested in what I said). so they may document some of your finds. If they do, you could use what they put into the Mario RPG prerelease page on their website into the same page on this website. I did this so that we could add stuff even more quickly. Thank you for finding all of this; it's really cool. I hope I helped a little bit! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 14:30, November 21, 2023 (EST)
- Thank you. I do have a TCRF handle, though I haven't been very active in a while. I knew for some time that there is a lot more undocumented stuff in Super Mario RPG than people know in the public sphere, so it's always humbling to see there's even more I didn't know about. You can see recent edits to the main game page for starters if that interests you. LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:00, November 23, 2023 (EST)
- Okay, I will. I'd like to help you add what you found to the page on this wiki, so I'll see what I can do about that soon. I might also help add some of your finds to the Super Mario RPG page on TCRF, as you found a lot of things that they have not covered. There's a lot to sort through, but I'll try to work out how to do everything. Thank you! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 13:52, November 23, 2023 (EST)
- I just wanted to ask, but do you have an account on TCRF? If so, could you tell me your username? I'm only asking because it would potentially help me when I'm trying to add your finds onto TCRF, and I'd be able to contact you there as well if I have any questions. I will not use your username to damage your account or impersonate you in any way (that is, if you tell me your username in the first place). If you don't want to tell me your username for any reason, that's okay. I don't want to invade your privacy. If you wish to contact me on TCRF, my username is FanOfRosalina2007 (the same as it is here). Thank you so, so much! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 16:44, November 23, 2023 (EST)
- Ah, I'll unfortunately be a little too busy for the rest of the year to be uploading images, but if you have any questions about them, I can take them. Like I said in the pre-release talk page, I think it may be easier to start by uploading the English-language material (something I meant to do a while back), and then the Japanese material could be dissected next. A lot of that stuff is in better quality or clearer than the things out there now. As for my username, it used to be LinkTheLefty there too. LinkTheLefty is a silly response at Link being right-handed in the Wii version of Twilight Princess. I've been LinkTheLefty here at the wiki for long enough that it might feel strange to change it now. Maybe I should've gone for a Mario-themed one, like Nitpicker? Well, if you do a user talk search on TCRF, it's not hard to figure out my username there. LinkTheLefty (talk) 19:04, November 23, 2023 (EST)
- Okay, I'll start in on that. Also, I looked you up on TCRF, and it said that an admin (specifically Rachel Mae) had renamed you to AutumnMouse. Is this accurate? And do you know anyone who could help me with starting to document the images and maybe assisting me in general? I'm very new to coding and uploading images and other external things in general (I actually have no experience whatsoever). I'm also pretty young, so I can't access some sites easily. I'll do what I can, but I might need other users to help me with actually uploading things. I will ask you if I happen to need any help. Thanks! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 22:38, November 23, 2023 (EST)
- Sure, I believe I go by Autumn there, but call me LinkTheLefty or LTL here. I'm not too active at other wikis including TCRF right now, so it's better to contact me here. I didn't even recognize Rachel (aka Rusty) until I looked it up just now. As for who can help around here, I would point to Doc von Schmeltwick (talk), whose judgment I trust about 99% of the time (dat 1% tho - nah I kid), or RHG1951 (talk), who uploaded the initial batch of those pre-release images from a third-party magazine back in 2021. As for who can help at TCRF? Mantis (talk) started this page, so maybe you can start there; for translation, GlitterBerri (talk) is experienced. Since I'm familiar with the Japanese version of Super Mario RPG more than...well, most, I can definitely lend a help with that. Or if you can wait, I can probably get started on this myself sometime in early 2024, though it would be neat to get this out while the remake's hot. If you'd like to get started on this sooner than later, do let me know if anyone at TCRF wants to get in touch in me. LinkTheLefty (talk) 08:30, November 24, 2023 (EST)
- Okay, thanks for the help. I can wait until 2024, especially because it would give me time to learn how to upload images and other things, so I could contribute more to this project. Meanwhile, I will try to contact the people you mentioned and see if they could help. There's actually only two or three screenshots on the Super Mario RPG prerelease page on TCRF, and I think once we're done putting information on this wiki, I could transfer some of it to TCRF. I do think we should get this out sooner than later, but only time will tell. I'll get started on contacting people today. Thanks so much! -- FanOfRosalina2007 (talk · edits) 13:34, November 24, 2023 (EST)

About the Eye Beamer/Torpedo Launcher situation
So... About those two... I saw your edit on the Torpedo Launcher about an alternative to implement the "Encyclopedia" template, and i saw you mentioned that a proposal would be necessary for this. Even before seeing your edit summary, i was considering a proposal too. At first, i thought a proposal on its talk page would work, but then i remembered Eye Beamer, so i figured it might need to be a general policy proposal directly made on MarioWiki:Proposals. Were you referring to a general policy proposal, in your edit summary? -- FanOfYoshi 05:30, December 5, 2023 (EST)
- Well, there's a few things I wanted to touch on regarding the new template. The first thing was already addressed here, and it's looking fairly smooth, so I don't think a proposal is needed. The second thing I wanted to get to was getting a firmer guideline on what to use when internal and foreign names overlap, like, as a former example, Banekiti. My take is, "hey, if internal data is our official source for transliterations, we might as use them," but with a second template in the picture and the name isn't English, it raises the question of which template is appropriate (partially why I resisted the template for a while). Third thing I wanted to discuss was a continuation of Doc's proposed templates here. A limitation of the template is that it's not worded to include things like the Wario Land 4 source assets, which came from an outside source (pre-compiled rather then post-compiled game data). If the scope were expanded to include other development sources, it would cover those things adequately. These might be possible with discussion if they're not contentious. Now, in regards to Eye Beamer/Launch Pads... Those would still have to be templated under the encyclopedia banner (unless we use "torpedo tube" from the Super Mario Galaxy Prima guide, but that looks off when those ones are different from usual and it doesn't account for the red version). But if you wanted to swap naming tiers so that Encyclopedia material had more priority over internal/development stuff, that would definitely have to require a new proposal altogether since Encyclopedia's partial-unbanning was explicitly the lowest tier at the time and website filenames were deemed even below that (though I don't think it happens in practice). I'm a little more open to it now, but I'd still want Comet Tico to be marked as an exception since that's flat-out citogenesis. LinkTheLefty (talk) 12:42, December 5, 2023 (EST)
Luigi's Mansion 2 guide
Hello, sorry if this is a weird question, but I was going to add a name ("Mummy Lnorma") to a page (Mummy) from a preview of this guide, and I thought I's ask if that guide's usable for that kind of thing. I found it mentioned here, in case that helps. Blinker (talk) 10:47, January 2, 2024 (EST)
- No, that's a fair question. I think it's probably safe to assume that this Enterbrain guide is licensed if it's directly mentioned on Nintendo's webpage. However, per here, the Shogakukan guide does take precedence. Shogakukan no longer seems to be making official guides as of late, though - it seems that Kadokawa took over that duty. I'm unfamiliar with these guides and their credits, but Mister Wu might know more. LinkTheLefty (talk) 21:20, January 2, 2024 (EST)
RE:On "half translated" names
This is really stupid... What is the point of having such a rule when every article can now have a names section for foreign languages? Regardless of the origin of these words, the names and titles are still in Japanese. I think it would be more faithful and accurate to keep the romanization of these Japanese names intact. --Conradd (talk) 15:54, January 3, 2024 (EST)
Running of the Bulb Big Boo
Do you know if Mario Party (the original) has any Japanese guides? I'm trying to figure out what the giant creepy Boo there is called, and the in-game instructions don't mention it. I found ガスボステレサ ("Gas Boss Teresa") on pixiv encyclopedia, but of course that's not an official source. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 20:07, January 7, 2024 (EST)
- Not so well-versed with Mario Party, but offhand there's always the case of the Jurassic Packun, which SSBU ended up calling "Packun" in the Japanese script and excising everywhere else. I suppose also whether the eating Cheep Cheeps are referred to as such or as Big Cheep Cheeps (or even Cheep Chomps). Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 10:54, January 8, 2024 (EST)
- The Tug-o-War gigantic Piranha and the Mushroom Bankers as well. And if the piratical Shy Guy from Shy Guy Says has a specific name. And for that matter, if the Pedal Power Boo is meant to be anything but a normal Boo, it is kinda large-ish. Doc von Schmeltwick (talk) 16:12, January 8, 2024 (EST)
