Rotating cogs[1] are objects in Super Mario Galaxy 2. They are giant, circular stone structures similar to cogs that appear embedded in walls, rotating continuously. They feature protruding sections (usually in the shape of a cross) where Mario (or Luigi) can stand and ride them to move around. Smaller rotating cogs with narrow passages, where the player needs to Wall Jump, also appear; however, this type rotates periodically rather than continuously.
Rotating cogs only appear in Clockwork Ruins Galaxy in all three missions, where they appear in the Giant Rotation Planet and the Rolling Drum Planet
