The Baker[citation needed] is a character introduced in Mario Paint. In almost all of his appearances, the Baker is seen doing either push-ups or pull-ups while his brother assists him.
History
Mario Paint
The Baker and his brother appear in a sequence shown when starting Mario Paint. In the sequence, the Baker does sit-ups while his brother holds his feet, and after a few seconds, the sequence concludes with the Baker doing a handstand.
Mario Artist: Polygon Studio
The Baker and his brother are characters in Mario Artist: Polygon Studio. Both of them have been redesigned slightly to have smaller, oval-shaped heads, and the brother's hat color is changed to red. In the Jikken World, the Baker is an unseen figure who leaves messages for the player on slices of bread in large pop-up toasters. The Baker's identity is not revealed to the player until they manage to reach the Sky Garden, where a message from the Baker's brother (marked with his face) states the Baker left the bakery in his brother's care while he went on a journey to train his body. The game also reveals that the Baker has been managing a bakery for 50 years, and is famous for printing messages on slices of bread.
The Baker and his brother will occasionally appear in a sequence similar to the one from Mario Paint when the game is started. The Baker is interactable by traveling very far away from the main overworld, and his brother by traveling to the highest point of the map. The Baker resides in a small, dark, red-tinted cage. The only object in the cage is a message stating that the Baker became a polygon from training too hard, whilst his brother resides on a grassy platform with heavenly vocals playing in the background. The Baker and his brother are classified as "special" blocks that serve no purpose outside of decoration, and they can be collected for later use in model assembly.
WarioWare series
The Baker is a recurring minor character in the WarioWare series. In WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Microgame$!, he is the object hiding inside of the log on the third difficulty level of I Came, I Saw, where he is shown to be designed after his appearance in Mario Artist: Polygon Studio. In WarioWare: Twisted!, the Baker both appears in the third level of Boomerang! as the object to throw and catch with the gyro controls as well as in Level 3 of Red Delicious? as the object inside the apple. In WarioWare: D.I.Y., the Baker can appear inside the sawn log in I Saw It!, doing sit ups before performing a handstand. In WarioWare: Move It!, the Baker and his brother can appear on the title screen.

The Baker and his brother reappear as the loading icon for Course World in Super Mario Maker and its port.
