Hello there, 'Shroom readers! The spooky season is upon us once again, but thankfully we're not being overrun by specters this time. I think having our ghost janitor mop up ectoplasm for a week may have been in somewhat poor taste. Lessons learned, you know? Instead we're only being overrun by cool and good sections courtesy of our talented writers!

I'm excited to finally announce the theme for our upcoming special issue in January - we're hitting the slots! That's right, Issue 238 will be casino-themed. From locations like the Pianta Parlor and characters like Game Guy, to Luigi's iconic Super Mario 64 DS minigames, there's quite a bit of inspiration to pull from, and that's just scratching the surface of what Mario alone has to offer on that front. (Is it too late to take a parting shot at Mario Kart Tour?) With Fun Stuff's obvious focus on games, and Strategy Wing's analysis of gameplay mechanics and design, it's a fitting celebration of Roserade and Hooded Pitohui's approaching milestone - and you can bet on that!

Next month, the annual Awards Director Election will be coming around again! If you're interested in overseeing 2027's Mario Awards season and ceremonies, it's the perfect time to start considering a campaign if you haven't already.

Welcome to October everybody! Well, we've been in this month for almost 3 weeks already, but a late greeting is better than nothing. The trees are losing their leaves and the weather's getting colder, so now's the time to enjoy the beautiful scenery while finding your favorite sweaters!

Have I been playing a ton of Kingdom Rush 6: Genesis? Heck yeah! Did I have tons of fun and reach 200% completion in less than a week? Also yes! I can safely say the wait was worth it, and I'm very looking forward to the exciting Post-game stages later on this year and 2027. It's gonna be awesome!

Let's just say The 'Shroom is a bowl full of treats. The treats themselves are the sections, and we have many special guest sections this month! Guess I'll go over these by feature:

• Fake News gets two sections!
  • In a News Flush, Harold Harefoot (talk) describes the exciting event of a Moblin being granted knighthood in Hyrule! He seems to be a nice guy too, even helping Link out. I'm not too familiar with The Legend of Zelda, but I think Moblins are normally enemies, right? I think?
  • Investigative Research is BACK, well at least for now! Koopa (talk) provides a very special section about the Koopa/Bonneter duo Headrest and Inquis as they check out several (rather unsettling) shows! Paranormal events and such does admittedly make them more exciting...
• Pipe Plaza also features a guest section by Boo1268 known as The Sweet Sins of Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory! This section's a deep dive on the characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and their unfortunate outcomes. Believe it or not, they have properties of some of the 7 deadly sins? It's wild, but you'll have to read it yourself to see!
• Critic Corner also has two sections!
  • Everyone has had a scary stuffed animal at some point in time, right? What if it gained sentience and turned into a monster? I found bravery and wrote Mr. Hopp's Playhouse review, meaning I played through a scary game for Halloween! It was so scary, but is it good? Horror games are more than just cheap jumpscares.
  • It's time for another Halloween playlist by Boo1268! See how he ranks fitting spooky tunes in The Frightful Third Top 13 Spooky Video Game Halloween Songs, and be sure to give them a listen yourself!
• Strategy Wing receives a special edition of Hooded Pitohui (talk)'s Four Steps for a 3D World, only it's about a 2D game! I found an appropriately themed level to write about in Super Mario Bros. Wonder, but does the format work for a non-3D game?
