foo or Foo?[edit]
Why are these guys called 'foo' when a level name calls them 'Foo'? Pallukun (talk) 19:35, March 3, 2020 (EST)
- Because the Super Mario Odyssey capture log calls them Ty-foos. TheDarkStar

- Also because the Super Mario 3D World Prima guide calls them Ty-foos, strongly suggesting that "Ty-Foo" was merely a capitalization via level title in the first place. LinkTheLefty (talk) 10:48, March 5, 2020 (EST)
Relation to Foo[edit]
So, why are we removing Foo from Comparable? No, the "air blowing" isn't the only thing in common. They probably are both derived from Fwoosh, but another thing they have in common is the appearance. I'm not saying they're derived, they're just comparable. --

- I think that was before Relatives was in more common use, but being that they're both derived from Fwoosh, it's redundant to list both under Comparable by extension, given how most variants are structured. The main physical similarity is their lips, but otherwise act entirely differently. LinkTheLefty (talk) 09:52, November 20, 2021 (EST)
Variants[edit]

Is there any reason to actually believe these and Foos are meant to be explicitly derived from Fwoosh? They have similar behaviors but "ビュービュー" is an extremely common onomatopoeia and the Japanese names and overall designs are different enough that I see no obvious evidence they're explicitly meant to be variants aside from pure speculation. Unless there's some information I'm missing, Fwoosh should simply be listed as comparable, it makes more sense to me that they're meant to be a variant of Foo instead. BubbleRevolution (talk) 22:16, December 4, 2025 (EST)
- Clouds with eyes that blow seem sufficient to be considered relatives. As for why they are variants, it's possibly due to the lack of direction from the wiki on what is a variant.

- I think that's a bit too generic of a descriptor to explicitly consider them variants. Sidesteppers and Clawdaddies are both crabs that walk sideways, but they're listed as "comparable". I think moving Fwoosh to the "comparable" section and listing Foo as the parent species makes more sense, personally, but I never moved them due to previous declarations here citing that Fwooshes were explicitly the parent species based on behavior and the Japanese name, but the Japanese name is hardly indicative that they were based off one another given how generic the source term is. If no one else chimes in to give pushback, I might go ahead and make that change. BubbleRevolution (talk) 00:16, December 5, 2025 (EST)
- Probably because Fwoosh came first and Foo's Development name indicates it's derived from Fwooshes. PrincessPeachFan (talk) 08:59, December 5, 2025 (EST)
- I still think that's way too vague of a connection, "Hyuhyu" is still an extremely generic onomatopoeia and while it's very possible there was inspiration, it's largely speculative. BubbleRevolution (talk) 13:06, December 5, 2025 (EST)
