Source for "Oho Ocean Seabed" vs. "Seabed"?[edit]
Is this area ever actually known as the Oho Ocean Seabed? While it is obviously located in Oho Ocean all in-game Save Albums and such refer to it as simply Seabed. Is there any text that actually refers to it as such in game? If not, it seems like the page ought to be moved to Seabed. Pseudo (talk) 19:14, July 15, 2023 (EDT)
- It's referred as "Oho Ocean Seabed" in the Player's Guide, but the in-game name of just "Seabed" probably should be prioritized. - RHG1951 (talk) 22:34, July 15, 2023 (EDT)
Potential move back to "Oho Ocean Seabed"?[edit]

Despite Save Albums only using the same Seabed, if the Beanbean Map is opened and then is pressed to display the location name, it will display the text Oho Ocean Seabed in-game. While this seems like enough evidence to move it back to that name, I only have the GBA version. 3DS may have changed it, which would be nice to confirm. --Spencer PK (talk) 23:07, July 2, 2025 (EDT)
- Okay there's some extra weird stuff going on in GBA. If the map is opened in the seabed rooms with the pipe to east Beanbean Fields or to Oho Oasis, then the map will just say Seabed, but if you open the map in any of the rooms in-between them, then the map will instead say Oho Ocean Seabed. What??? --Spencer PK (talk) 22:06, July 3, 2025 (EDT)
- I looked more into this oddity and I think I figured it out: (almost) every Save Album has a unique string of text that gets displayed when saving at one. The location name that gets displayed on the Beanbean Map uses a "generic" name dependent on the region the room is in, but if the room has a Save Album, then the map can pull part of the Save Album text. This allows unique room names (Relaxation Room, Surfing Game Island) to be displayed on the Beanbean Map only if M&L are there and there is a Save Album. This can also cause the completely wrong area name to be displayed for select rooms only. An example of a wrong name being displayed is the room of Hoohoo Mountain connected to Teehee Valley that solo Luigi goes through to get to Guffawha Ruins. This room has a Save Album in it, and saving there says the text "Guffawha Ruins Area". This room with the Save Album is clearly Hoohoo Mountain and not Guffawha Ruins, but if the map is opened specifically in this room, then it will incorrectly say Guffawha Ruins (with the "Area" part of the Save Album text getting trimmed). If you go one screen north or south from here and then open the map, it will say Hoohoo Mountain. This Seabed oddity is caused by all Oho Ocean Seabed Save Albums using the shortened Seabed, and this shortened name is only displayed on the map in rooms that have Save Albums in them. To add to this, one of the seabed rooms changes in the story: the S.S. Chuckola sinks, opening new paths and adding a Save Album. Internally, there are actually two versions of this room: one with and one without the S.S. Chuckola. If the Beanbean Map is opened in the initial version of the room, then it will say Oho Ocean Seabed. If the map is opened in the version with the ship and new Save Album there, then the map will simply say Seabed.
- Seeing how the Save Albums can cause the completely wrong area name to be displayed, the Seabed name is only used in rooms with Save Albums, and all other Save Album-less rooms in this region use the name Oho Ocean Seabed in the map, I think that the page should be moved back to Oho Ocean Seabed. All of these points may get overturned if 3DS does something weird, like actually rename all of Oho Ocean Seabed to just Seabed possibly by mistake if it looked at GBA without digging deeper into it. --Spencer PK (talk) 04:54, July 17, 2025 (EDT)
