BGM[edit]
Why does this theme use "BGM" in the conjectural name when all the other NSMBW themes have "Theme" instead? Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 08:38, June 16, 2025 (EDT)
- The theme is titled 「おばけ屋敷BGM」 on The 30th Anniversary Super Mario Bros. Music, sharing its name with the Super Mario World ghost house theme, which was localized as "Ghost House BGM." The other names are either sourced from New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Simplified Piano Solos or are conjectural based on the same format. Older games tend to use 'BGM,' while newer games tend to use 'Theme,' so New Super Mario Bros. Wii sits at an uncertain midpoint between naming conventions. - If it has an official Japanese name, shouldn't that be the title of the article? Official names from other languages take priority over conjectural names. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 11:19, June 16, 2025 (EDT)
- You may not be aware of this, but currently titling a page by deriving an English name from non-English sources is higher priority than a non-English name. And the name of this article is a derived name. Check MarioWiki:Naming. Though, my understanding is that derived names are supposed to be well founded. An uncertainty between "BGM" and "Theme" suggests the wiki has to come to a definitive decision on which one to use for this article. Salmancer (talk) 11:55, June 16, 2025 (EDT)
- Isn't the point of derived names to make page titles more consistent? This is a case where it is actively doing the opposite. The naming policy does say that derived names must be "built upon a strong enough foundation" in order to take priority. Hewer (talk · contributions · edit count) 13:17, June 16, 2025 (EDT)
