The Alleyway[1] is an interstellar[1] cosmic location in which Alleyway takes place. The Alleyway consists of fields, referred to as stages in-game, which contain lines of space grids. The Alleyway is only mentioned on the box art and promotional material, and is never mentioned in-game.
It is stated that Mario's spaceship "is at the gate of the Alleyway".[1][2]
The North American box art and the Japanese box art depict the Alleyway differently. The Japanese box art is darker, has several planets, but contains fewer stars.
