Chibibos are a sub-species of the Goombas that resided in Sarasaland during the events of Super Mario Land. Chibibos slowly meander to the side, waiting to hit Mario. Their similar attack pattern is probably due to the fact that they are smaller cousins of the Goomba (according to an official Nintendo Power magazine[citation needed]). Once stomped or shot with a superball, they awarded Mario with one hundred points. After Nokobons, Chibibos are the most common enemy in the game, appearing in all kingdoms with the exception of the Easton Kingdom.
Etymologically, Chibibo's name is a pun comprised of the words chibi, which means "short person" or "dwarf", and Kuribō, the Japanese name for Goombas. While it's not truly understood why, nearly all enemies of Super Mario Land retain their Japanese names, unlike most of those of the main series.
Chibibos are similar in size to Micro Goombas but otherwise behave like regular Goombas.
