Topmaniac
Template:GBoss-infobox Topmaniac is a boss in the game Super Mario Galaxy. It resembles a red spinning top, and is the leader of the Topman tribe. It is fought twice, once in the Battlerock Galaxy and once in the Dreadnought Galaxy; four times if Prankster Comets are taken into account.
Appearance
Topmaniac is simply a larger Topman. Most Topmen have spikes on their tops, but Topmaniac has spikes on its side and a flat top. It attacks Mario by spinning into him with its spikes and occasionally by jumping into him. It also has eyes on its front.
Strategy
Battlerock Galaxy
Like all other Super Mario Galaxy bosses, Topmaniac takes three hits to knock out and gets harder after every hit. It is fought in an arena with electric barriers on all sides (though Mario can jump out of the arena at any time). Topmaniac will fall from the sky with two little objects and extend spikes which it will then use to try to hit Mario. Mario must jump on top of it all the while avoiding and/or taking out the little objects which are trying to kick him into the electricity. When Topmaniac is jumped on, its spikes retract and it goes close to the electric barriers, at that time Mario must Spin it into the electricity. The second time is the same as the first except now Topmaniac spins faster and goes for Mario. Finally, on the third time, Topmaniac calls in reinforcements in the form of two Topmen who attack Mario as well as Topmaniac himself. Once Mario finally rams it into the electricity a third time, it will release a Star.
Topmaniac is fought twice in this galaxy, but the second fight is part of the Daredevil Comet run.
Dreadnought Galaxy
Topmaniac fights the same way as before in this galaxy. However, the electric barriers will move around, and have gaps at certain sections. When the battle starts, instead of sending small topmen, Topmaniac will send two Spiky Topmen at Mario.
Like with the Battlerock Galaxy, Topmaniac is fought twice here. However, the second fight is part of the Speedy Comet run.
Trivia
- Topmaniac shares the same boss music as King Kaliente and Bugaboom.
- It seems that during production of Super Mario Galaxy, Topmaniac was originally going to be fought in the Melty Molten Galaxy, which had several elements from the Dreadnought Galaxy.Here he was actually grey with light grey stripes, instead of blue arrows. His head was rounded at the top like a normal Topman (instead of the big red light) and his head would rise up like one too.
- Topmaniac's UFO may be the same one that attacked Toad Town.
- The player faces Topmaniac up to four times (Prankster Comets included), which is more than most other bosses in the game.
