The Unzappables is the thirty-first episode of The Super Mario Bros. Super Show!. It's corresponding live-action segment is "George Washington Slept Here".

Plot Synopsis

Mario and gang head to Crime Land, which King Koopa, now calling himself "Al Koopone," had taken over. As they get out of a taxi, Princess Toadstool wonders why it is called Crime Land when it is so peaceful. Suddenly, Mouser, Tryclyde, and Koopa Troopa rush out of a bank, having just robbed it. Mario confronts the trio, only to get shot at by Snifits. The Koopa Pack quickly escapes in a car, and Mario vows to teach Al Koopone that crime does not pay.

At King Koopa's new headquarters, the Koopa Klub, Al Koopone is gloating over how Mario will never be able to get in. Mouser, Tryclyde, and Koopa Troopa enter with the objects Al Koopone had sent them to get. They all trip and discover hats inside the boxes. Al Koopone orders the henchmen to put the hats on, and then pulls out a Snifit, shooting at them. They, however, remain unharmed, as the hats are "magical." Elsewhere, Toad informs Mario that they don't know where Al Koopone is. They find a stool pidgeon, who gives them information about Al Koopone's next robbery after Toad trades some bird feed.

The Koopa Pack hold up a bank, and use a Bob-omb to destroy the vault. As Mouser pulls down each of the bankers' hats, Mario, Luigi, Princess Toadstool, and Toad show up just in time to stop him and the rest of the Koopa Pack. They throw vegetables at the villains, but they are unaffected and merely laugh at the attack. Mario grabs his plunger and lunges at King Koopa, but gets blasted back through the power of Al Koopone's hat. They take the heroes prisoner and use cement to trap their legs. Toad asks for some help, to which Koopa Troopa agrees and gets scolded by Al Koopone, knocking him away. He pulls a lever, which sends Mario and gang into a river.

Fortunately for them, Mario finds a Starman, which enables him to free himself and his friends. They finally reach the Koopa Klub and disguise themselves to get in. Mouser asks them what the password is, but gets frustrated when they don't respond and reveals that it is "cheeseballs." They head into the club, and find a male Birdo dancing with a female Ostro, a Goomba playing the piano, a Shyguy playing a cello, a Pidgit playing a saxophone, and Tryclyde sipping some soda. Mario and the others find the Coat Check room, where they find the Unzappable hats. They put them on and confront Al Koopone. The Koopa Pack immediately attacks with their Snifits, but fail to harm them. The group pulls out some vegetables and defeat the Koopa Pack. Princess Toadstool grabs the soda gun and blasts away the Pidgit, Goomba, Ostro, Birdo, and Shyguy. Al Koopone escapes through a Warp Zone.

After chasing Al Koopone away from Crime Land, Mario takes over the Koopa Klub and renames it "Mario's Pasta Palace," as Crime Land did not have an Italian restaurant.

Trivia

  • The "Koopa Klub" was used in an issue of the Nintendo Comics System series of Super Mario, as a one-page spread explaining where Bowser and his Koopalings go to relax.
  • Bowser's alter ego name, Al Koopone, is a refrence to Al Capone, a high class criminal during the 1920's.
