Template talk:Reminder

Why don't you just make it: {| style="margin: .15em;" |- |Please stop ''{{{1}}}'' on the {{SITENAME}}. This isn't a warning, and it's possible that you made a mistake by accident or without realizing it; this is simply a reminder for your information. '''If the action continues deliberately''', then a warning will be issued. Thanks for reading and keep contributing. {{{2}}} |}

and get them to insert {{Reminder|Reason|~~~~}}? That would be soo much easier.--Marioguy1 My talk page (haha, no link for you ) 02:21, 9 July 2009 (EDT)

It was like that, originally. I don't know why it was changed. I notice that the usage example on the page still reflects this... - 2257(Talk) 02:34, 9 July 2009 (EDT)

I have an idea on how this template could look...See User:Marioguy1/Templates! Marioguy1 (talk)
I like your idea, it looks nice with the smiley face. The image makes it look better. · SMB (Talk) · 00:34, 23 July 2009 (EDT)
Yes this one is very strict, it makes users feel bad and I think some user (on Yoshario's talk page) quit because of a reason like that (his mom had to get Yoshario to explain that he did nothing wrong). My biggest worry is that they won't like the little block sign at the top of the page that says:This user has been warned (or should). Marioguy1 (talk)
I personally liked that aspect, you can find out if a user has been previously warned. · SMB (Talk) · Yay, Subscript Day!

That's why I added it, I refrained from adding a category of Users with warning because that may of been too much changing...Now I've got to go nag Coincollector to vote, soya! Marioguy1 (talk)

Well, not bad ur new version; at least does not look very monotonous like this used. ¢oincollctor rsitem209.png

Well, I need several admins to agree before I can get it changed, wait *Marioguy1 sniffs the air* Stoooben...Marioguy1 (talk)
That's it, I'm spamming the talk of the next admin to come on to get over here...Anyhow, here's my version.

How can you say no to that cute smiley? Marioguy1 (talk)

Comments

Well, I DO think that this is an interesting concept, but at the same time, I kind of feel that it's a bit unnecessary. By "unconstructive edits", you mean vandalism, right? If so, then people who deliberately come to vandalize articles don't need warnings, they need to be banned on the spot. SolarBlaze (talk)

No, making unconstructive edits is the default answer if you enter no reason. If you enter a reason it will change to something else, if you enter no reason it will say Making unconstructive edits (see User:Marioguy1/Templates for more details! Marioguy1 (talk)

Ah, okay. I see what you're saying, now. You have my support. SolarBlaze (talk)

Most of the changes seem unnecessary to me, like the box and the change of images. --Yoshario (talk)

Change of images? There was no image before! Marioguy1 (talk)
I got confused with the warning template, that had an image. Anyway, my opinion with the smiley image is the same as Stooben's and Time Q's, we don't want to "frown down" upon a new user for violating the rules unintentionally. --Yoshario (talk)

It seems like a good idea Marioguy1, stops troublesome users in their path, so I guess you can have my support. Baby Mario Bloops (talk)

Is that block sign part of the template? If so, I'm opposing the change. The purpose of the Reminder is to make people aware of a mistake for the very first time. In most cases they don't even know that they did something wrong. It's not supposed to be a punishment. For this reason, I'm also sceptical about the smiley. He looks quite annoyed, and that's not the kind of impression a receiver of the Reminder should get. Time Questions 09:37, 24 July 2009 (EDT)

I kind of agree with Time Q. I like how the template changed from a rather stern-looking warning sign to a smiley, but the smiley seems to be frowning down upon the user. We don't want users to be frowned upon when they make a mistake for the first time. Accidents happen. So, maybe if it had a less 'annoyed'-looking smiley -- as Time Q put it -- it would look even better. — Stooben Rooben 14:39, 26 July 2009 (EDT)
I have changed the smiley so can you change the template? The old smiley was supposed to be noticing they did something bad but I guess that isn't the message it conveyed...Marioguy1 (talk)

I certainly like how much less... cold the inclusion of the smile makes it look. In some circumstances, sounding human is better than sounding professional. On the other hand, the image itself has a white background, which looks bad on some skins. So, that should be changed to clear. Also, on my display, the image is larger than the template itself, which looks wrong. - 2257(Talk) 02:28, 9 August 2009 (EDT)

I will deal with your problems immediately, I'll check my brother's laptop to see if the same problem comes from there to see what's up with your image. Until then, I'm bombarding Porplemontage with questions. Marioguy1 (talk)

Well, 4 things:

1- The below section shouldnt be there, it would be better at the top.

2- I like the smiley. Users wont feel like they are being "punished".

3- We should keep {{{2}}} so users can know what they did wrong.

4- The sign should go outside the template, so the user can put it him/herself and add a comment if he wants.

--TucayoSig.png I love PM

OK, I'll try to respond well to your things:
  1. Below section? What below section?
  2. Thanks!
  3. Ya, the {{{2}}} is now a {{{1}}}, {{{2}}} is the user's username
  4. But if it goes outside it looks sloppy :( Adding a comment though, I guess I could put a {{{3|}}} at the end to allow comments... Marioguy1 (talk)

Not sure about the smiley. To me, it looks almost too kind now. I mean, now it's the opposite of what it was before: users could feel encouraged, seeing that smiley. Time Questions 14:56, 11 August 2009 (EDT)

What kind of smiley do you want? Tell me and I will find one. Marioguy1 (talk)
Well, that's a good question actually. I don't really have an idea what could be suitable. Possibly smileys don't fit the concept of such a template in general. Time Questions 15:06, 11 August 2009 (EDT)
Well what kind of image? Maybe a mario character like bowser or that Mario in the infobox on this page? Marioguy1 (talk)

Change Template

So far, here are the users who want it changed to my version:
This section follows the Mariowiki:No-Signature Policy

Something that needs to be fixed

The link to the "Level one offenses" section doesn't work because the link labels it "Level One Offenses" with capitalization, can an admin fix that? Binarystep (talk) 03:18, 6 June 2015 (EDT)

What's the difference?

Bowser201 Hello MarioWiki,

I was just wondering the difference between a {{reminder}} and a {{warning}}. I know the difference between the two mentioned and a {{lastwarning}}, as breaking a rule of any kind after that leads to a block, but in general, what's the difference between a reminder and a warning?
